I only use the portal to find new posts, so if there's another way to find new posts, then that's fine.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I would LOVE to see the Birthdays functionality disappear. It's a nice gesture, but all the Happy Birthday threads really litter up the board (at least the New Topics list), and are only of interest to the Birthday Boy/Girl. Just my 2 psi.

Keep up the good work.

I like the portal page; but if it must go I'll happily find another way to navigate. Knowing the birthdays is great, but like ShamuLovesMe, the birthday threads can be overwhelming when looking for topics of interest. I would hate to see the galleries go away.

Kamala, do what YOU think is best for the site. The portal page is nice but like most have already said, I usually blow through it anyway.

In other words, #3.

I spent a LOT of time and effort reprogramming the portal to put the most up-to-date information right on the front page so that it would make it easier for newbies to get familar with the site and navigate with ease. If the new software comes with a portal that has more features, then by all means, upgrade, but don't forget that this site is also about attracting and KEEPING new members.

The biggest problem, as I have mentioned to WW about the upgrade, is going to be the Gallery issue. Just make sure to back everything up, mainly the uploads folder so that you still have everything to put back in later.

Hey ZD I know how hard you worked to build our original site as well as customize the message board software for SD's purposes! :dontthinkso: Hopefully we'll be able to use the new portal page software...but the old one gets blown away in the upgrade.

The biggest problem, as I have mentioned to WW about the upgrade, is going to be the Gallery issue. Just make sure to back everything up, mainly the uploads folder so that you still have everything to put back in later.

Ahh...I wish the galleries were the biggest issue...seems our board it too big now and has been since about the March/April timeframe to do a single complete back up. Otherwise the upgrade would have been done by now. :birthday:
