'Nother thought: if you don't like the confinement of a regular hood, try out a drysuit hood. They stop just below your chin so they don't interfere with the neck seal. If you're in the PNW, the shops 'round there ought to have 'em. Here in sunny Phoenix, folks say "what's a drysuit??" 'cos they mostly head to the Caribbean. Hell, I took my drysuit down to the Sea of Cortez in January a couple of years ago. I'm a cold wimp, although not as severely as our dear WW.

I tried the Bare 'Tech Dry Hood' (the one with the rear zipper). The zipper didn't survive even ONE trip. Not very 'tech', with such a crappy failure point!

If the water's too cold for a beanie, I switch to my drysuit hood, even diving wet. It won't move around on you like a beanie might, either. BTW, the shine in my photo is FACE, not SCALP. The hairline didn't recede, the face grew!

I just let mine go wild. It usually dosen't get in front of my mask until I surface, so it's not much of a problem.
