I'm likely not going to be able to attend this clinic either because of work committments but I do wish to put a plug in for Trace. I met Trace while enroute from IN to RI at Dutch Springs in PA this past October (see "Learning to dive...again!" under Dive Training). I had already signed up for a GUE Fundamentals course in November but had only read about the DIR styles of diving, equipment configurations, etc up to that point and really had no idea of what the differences were with the exception of equipment configuration. What Trace showed was an underwater elegance and comfort in the water that I had no idea existed. He showed me the basic skills and drills that I'd need for my GUE class as well as a review of my equipment. And he did all of this in a very relaxed manner with an obvious passion for our sport.

When I went to my GUE-Fs class I went knowing that I was over-my-head in terms of being proficient in these skills. I still learned alot but was very thankful that I went in with Traces primer to keep me grounded in reality. The 2 other students in my class did go in without understanding these skills either although they had significantly more dive experience than me (1000 and 500 dives respectively compared to my 200 or so). They each had grandeor ideas of going right through to Tech 3 and beyond while I knew that I needed to learn these skills to the point where the trim and buoyancy are ingrained so that one does not even think about it as it appears to happen naturally. When we all finally got in the water, our skills were all relatively the same and we each ended up with Provisional status. I've slowly been practicing though my dives in the last month have been few because of the weather in New England. Right now I'm heading down to Key West and Ocala for the holidays and hope to practice some more. However, without question I'd like to join Trace at Ginny Springs as his style and approach are excellant and highly recommended. This is true for anyone regardless of whether it is recreational or technical.

Perrone,

While this IS a certainly impressive punch list, you forgot one FUNDAMENTAL point; to wit: Order at Floyd's WITHOUT consulting the MENU first!

The WILL be a Pop Quiz!!

:thankyou:

Can you send me a copy of the menu? Time & job permitting, I am thinking about attending.... :)

WW, how flexable are you on sign ups for this one? I may not know until a day or two before hand. To think, I actually sign up for 12-18 hour days & no weekends.... :respect:

Marvel, how far are you from Ft. Lauderdale/Plantation. I am looking to do some diving on the cheap next week, and I'll be down there.

Ahem. Have you never heard of Lauderale By The Sea? (shaking head) Home of the best beach diving around? I think that the name says it all- we're really a little piece of paradise in Ft Lauderdale. It's just a small section of FLL's barrier island. So, come on down! I'm going to my duaghter's tomorrow for Christmas & won't be home until Tues or Wed but I'd really be hurt if we didn't at least TRY to dive together!
