A wise person once said that true love is finding perfection in imperfection.

I think that this is a very powerful statement. It says to me that the love you have for someone is unconditional enough to love someone inspite of their imperfections while realizing that a person is completely unique and that real joy is turning imperfection into perfection. By this I don't mean trying to change the other person but rather realizing that you love the imperfections as much as you do the perfection and through that level of love you find *complete* perfection in that person and the love you have for them.

One of my long time friends told me that finding your true love is finding someone whose faults you can live with and who can live with your's...in other words, someone who sees you for who you are and not who you pretend to be...and vice versa

but then, I also believe in living my life to the 10 Commandments...they aren't the 10 Suggestions! if you can live your life as clean as possible, then true love will find you

Um, there is such a thing as a human being who is perfect? I don't think so. Certainly not me. I liked your comment about living with a person's "imperfections" (although I'd prefer to call the "imperfections" just being human). God knows I have many (fortunately She isn' telling anyone).

drbill,

that's my point...no one is perfect and only when you see and understand that can you or I find "true love"

the biggest thing for me is to find that person who has faults I can live with and who can live with mine...then I think I can be and feel complete...and love the man I"m with

Sounds to me like the corollary of the lesson I learned from my engaged period: No one's perfect until you fall in love with them.

I had a true love once...funny thing, his love wasn't true at all!

Many of us will have love that will last a lifetime, yet may never find true love. Love can only be true if your heart is wide open exposing the real you. Then and only then can the other person see you for who you really are. Of course, the recipricol must also be present...you must be able to know the other person for who they really are in their heart. Then, if you love that person, and that person loves you because of what's on the inside...I would say your love is true.

If you love someone who has fooled you into thinking they are someone else, even exposing imperfections along the way...you may be truly in love, but the love between you is not true. You are simply a conquest; your love for that individual is proof to him or her that he or she is a master of the game, even if he or she doesn't see it for what it is...that's what it is. It may end, it may not. You may go along blissfully loving, and he or she goes along basking in the glory of their deception, knowingly or unknowningly. One day he or she may say that he or she has fallen out of love, and then moves on. The truth is...he or she just tired of the game, whether or not he or she even realized they were playing.

We hide ourselves...we do. It's rare that we feel safe enough to expose the real person. When we hide, we're playing the game and cheating ourselves the opportunity for true love. We do it because we're afraid.

Ask this question...

What am I most afraid of, someone knowing me for who I am? or true love?

Many of you know me...I've shared openly here online and in person. I'm afraid of true love, and that's why I hide when I do.

Grace Jones has a wonderful song title that sums this up beautifully...

"I'm Not Perfect (But I'm Perfect for You)" :P

I don't know why this is even an issue... I, nor anyone else, is perfect, so why should we expect to find the *perfect* person? (And what does *perfect* mean anyway?) Where does this expectation/desire for perfection come from? The media, our family, our peers, society in general? :usflag:

I'm a country music fan. So here is the lyrics from Brad Paisley:

Well I'll never forget the first time that I heard
That pretty mouth say that dirty word
And I can't even remember now what she backed my truck into
But she covered her mouth and her face got red
And she just looked so darn cute
That I couldn't even act like I was mad
Yeah I live for little moments like that

Well that's just like last year on my birthday
She lost all track of time and burnt the cake
And every smoke detector in the house was goin' off
And she was just about the cry until I took her in my arms
And I tried not to let her see me laugh
Yeah I live for little moments like that

I know she's not perfect but she tries so hard for me
And I thank God that she isn't 'cause how boring would that be
It's the little imperfections it's the sudden change in plans
When she misreads the directions and we're lost but holdin' hands
Yeah I live for little moments like that

When she's layin' on my shoulder on the sofa in the dark
And about the time she falls asleep so does my right arm
And I want so bad to move it 'cause it's tinglin' and it's numb
But she looks so much like an angel that I don't wanna wake her up
Yeah I live for little moments
When she steals my heart again and doesn't even know it
Yeah I live for little moments like that

I have found that there is a country song for everything in life!

In the case that I was talking about, both answers are correct--it just depends on when the question was asked. :birthday:
