Alright I just got off the phone with the dive operator. Here's what you need to bring:

1) 3 tanks = 3 :diver:
2) Food/Snacks & Drinks (there is a cooler on board to store everything)
3) Dive gear in a SMALL bag (remember the boat is pretty small)
4) Sunscreen and towels (there is plenty of dry storage on the boat, but not a lot of sun protection)

Arrival: 6:00am
Departure: 6:30am

The directions ScubaPunk posted are correct. You can pull up close to the boat, unload your dive gear, and then go park. I will confirm the trip is a go Friday afternoon/evening and post. If seas are not over 3ft, we'll be diving.

Sounds good. I don't think Chris will make it into the Gulf before Sunday

Mermaid: You want to spearfish? Is it just going to be on one dive? Do you need the operator to provide an ice chest on board?

I was planning on bringing my pole spear just in case, so yeah. FYI I don't use spearguns so there should be no issue with other divers. Besides I will be freediving on any fishing forays. I only plan to go during one of the dives and that is highly dependent on conditions (specifically current).

And then I need your opinions. Viz on average is about 50ft. What the operator suggested is going to the Bucaneer Rigs. It's two sunk platforms creating an artificial reef. It was clear last weekend, and suggests going there first to dive. Then we can hunt for good sites during our surface intervals. This would allow us to get our first dive in without wasting time.

I think that sounds peachy to me. :bam:

Let me know what you think and if you have any more questions!

:banghead:

Is the boat at the very end of the dike? By the restaurant?

Mitch and I have tentative plans to carpool. Anyone else on the west side of Houston wish to join us? (save gas $$!!)

Looking forward to this trip!! :twist:

I would like to carpool with everyone!
On your way to the dock can you swing by SW Arkansas and pick us up ???

Didn't think so :bam:

I'm bringing 3 tanks Mitch just incase we leave on time and have the chance to get three dives in :banghead:

I'm leaving friday early Early! and I will do a drive-by at the dock then find a hotel close-by with my SO.

The boat is docked north of Galveston in Texas City. Not sure if there is much there. It looks pretty industrial to me. But how should I know, I'm a Connecticut girl! :D

The operator said the boat is down about a 1/4 of a mile and there should be lots of cars (though at 6am I can't imagine) on the left by the dock.

:)

Texas City is pretty low key. Just off I-45, there is a Fairfield Inn on the Emmitt F Lowry Parkway (FM 1764, Exit 16, just east of I-45, next to the Texas City mall). If you want something a bit cheaper, there is a Super 8 at one of the next exits South (I think Exit 13, FM 2004) next to an outlet mall, justwest of the I-45.

Has anyone said how the rig-diving was? Scubapunk said to indicate if there was further interest... I'd be interested...

The feedback from the trip was very positive from all participants. I have the boat scheduled for Sept. 30th. If there is enough interest, we can do it again. I will need to let him know within the next couple of weeks, so he can schedule another group if we decide not to go.

So far Cozy Girl and Mermaid Lady are the only two who have mentioned doing the Rig trip again. With myself added in, that's three people. We need two more to make it a go.

You can take 3 tanks. The cost was $160.00 for the last trip, so I expect it will be the same. However that price can go up if the gas prices go up. If we have five people interested in going, we can lock in a price.
