I will wager 3:1 on women finding more teeth, the biggest teeth and the smallest teeth; not to mention the most unique artifacts. Any wagers?
Hey OTW, whats the wager?? This should be a blast!! The cooper river is my favorite diving.. Ya never know what you will find.. Fossils... bottles... civil war artifacts..
Looking forward to it!!

My eleven year old has expressed an interest in diving. Last August he went to the keys with me for lobster season and attempted to snorkel for lobster. After ensuring there were no sharks, barracuda or piranah in the river, he ultimately decided to wait another year...
On a more serious note, I did have some questions reference the trip:
1. Since there are four dives per day, do we need 4 sets of tanks or is there a fill station on the boat?
2. Would love to have some information about the lights you recommend.
3. Based on the water temperature and the river characteristics, what size suit should we wear if any? Is there a thermocline that keeps the water clear?
4. I assume we need gloves to look for the teeth in the rocks?
Sorry for asking so many questions...
At least wear a 3mm full length and reef gloves, you should also think of bringing a screw driver with a length of robe attached and a brass clip to attatch to your bc. The screw driver isn't for digging but to help you move upstream against the current. You want to move up stream when looking for things, so that when you surface, you don't miss the boat (like I did on my first trip there). There are all kinds of things on the bottom of the river and if your in the gravel (which is where you wanna be) your knuckles will be raw after the first dive if you don't where gloves. Just my $0.02 Just a few weeks ago they found a few nice points and teeth. I have a good ammount of teeth and clay pipe stems. It is a fun time and there is plenty to find.
Which end is up?

You have the opportunity to be the first person to discover, and hold, fossils that are millions of years old. That is cool to anyone. The dives are best described as a night dive, in the middle of the day. You will be task loaded but you will forget all of the surface preparation you went through the first tooth you find.

The diver who found the 5 7/8 tooth was not on the boat the second day when the picture was taken. The SC dispensary bottle and the Queen Ann era pewter Spoon were the trophy artifacts, along with some old Pepsi bottles from the 50's and 60's. You too can be a treasure hunter with pretty good odds of finding the prize.
