And I'd probably be real careful about diving in Texas (just kidding all of you).

As for me?  Are there places I won't go?  Sure, I would avoid anywhere that has had any kind of politial uprising in the last 12 months.  I'm not really planning on diving anywhere in arab countries right now either.

:welcome: I feel you, I don't want to go anywhere where the people are so full of hatred for Americans that they can talk a pregnant woman into strapping explosives to her body, if they don't value their own lives, they won't give a fat rats patooty about about me, and you know just like in the movies...the black person dies first  ROTFLOL

I'm going to Wakatobi via Bali.

Jacsac and Wreck Wench- wasn't the Sipidan incident several years back (or is this a new one?).

I've been talking with Didi about the Red Sea this year. Of course seeing stories about beheadings doesn't make the Middle East sound like paradise these days (although going there could accelereate my arrival in paradise... wonder if I'd get 70 virgins? how about just one??).

Doc

I thought the incident was old as well...I was trying to find out for sure as it is a contender for the S. Pacific trip in 2005. k

The Bay of Fundy during tide change comes to mind as a least desired place to go. Otherwise count me in.

I dove the Red Sea back during the first Gulf war as a contractor. Dove from the coast of Jeddah. Felt pretty safe at the time with all the troops over there and the scuds didn't last long. Wouldn't go back now, no way, no how, no amount $$.

I don't know, EM, I think they would cap me before they would you! You're much more gorgeous than me! :hiya:

I have an older brother who lives in Dubai in the United Arab Emriates. For those of you who do not know, the UAE is located on the southern coast of the Persian Gulf between Saudi Arabia and Yemen. He has lived over there for most of the last 10 years and he is not worried at all about traveling in that region (so he tells me).

Right now, it would be very hard to get me to travel to the Middle East. Justified or not, there are too many folks over there who simply HATE Americans and I would hate to find myself in a bad situation just because some idiot is pissed off at my home country and wants to take it out on me (not that he would not have a major fight on his hands!).

There are plenty of other and much safter dive destinations I would like to visit before I will go into what is presently a war zone and probably will be one for a long time.

I was in Bali twice in 01- first time was May for about 3 weeks, then again in October- also about 3 weeks. The only difference I saw was the low amout of tourists because so many people from all over the world were not traveling. I was in Thailand twice in 03, and once this past February. I was in Borneo, but not Sipadan after the kidnapping thing in 2000. I did spend a week in Sipadan/Mabul this past November. There is an army post there, and patrol boats are obvious. I am considering going to Egypt in August with some friends. So, as you can see, I do not let too much stop me from traveling. The no seeums in Honduras would keep me away more than the soldiers.

If you think the noseeums are bad in Honduras don't even think about going to NZ!
