Actually, you can't. Avatars are required to be a photo of the member.

This is based on a vague memory, but isn't the type of 'bent' you get after a hot shower more of the skin variety?

Back to the thread topic. Last night at my LDC meeting one of the guys had just returned from Cozumel, where one of the women got bent. He said she did a 80 ft dive and came up slowly and did a safety stop. Thanks to this thread I asked a number of questions, was she drinking the night before, no, did she get a good nights sleep, no actually she said she hadn't slept well. And she took a HOT SHOWER after returning from the dive. This was the fourth day of diving, but she had a day off the day before, she was a petite women in good shape in late 40's. The doctor in the chamber said the hot shower probably brought the bubbles to the surface.

Apparently staying out of a hot shower is a very good idea. Someone asked how long you should wait -- anyone have an answer?

Walters right. Its the heat of the shower that its the problem. The hot shower heats the skin, the body diverts the bloodflow to the skin and reduces it in the body core leading to less efective N2 elimination from certain tissues and increased risk of the bends. Equally a cold shower or post dive cooling will have the oppisite physiological effect and is also a DCS contributing factor. Where in the body did this diver get bent? That might give a clue as to whether the shower was a factor.

There are so many pre, during and post-dive factors that can contribute to DCS that we cannot be certain the shower was the cause, although it may have contributed.

The answer is to have a warm shower that is roughly body temperature. Or take Chinacats advise and wait as long as possible before taking a shower, although your probably gonna increase ur risk of remaining a SingleDiver :wavey:
