Nothing....absolutely nothing!!! Sometimes I wish that I was a bear so I could sleep through Winter. (At least I'm honest )

I'm kinda on the same page as Rick.
I actually do struggle a little bit with depression in the winter, I think.
There are a few things that make winter tolerable in Calgary - Chinooks (because we get lovely warm temps and the snow goes away), the heated stable and riding arena where I can go and ride my horses, and dive trips to somewhere tropical to break up the winter.
We have been extremely warm this fall and I'm very pleased about that - in spite of the fact that I haven't had a chance to wear my new fur coat at all. I predict this will be the warmest winter on record here so I won't have a chance to wear it at all - but really that would be fine, too.
From the minute the winter solstice passes I am counting the days to the spring equinox.
as damselfish implies, perhaps if I did have a special someone to keep me warm then I would not find winter nights so miserable.
waiting for spring....

I despise winter. I'd rather surf than snowboard. I spent too much time in the desert and my body doesn't take kindly to being cold. So... I moved to Florida! 83 degrees, 68% humidity, nice breeze. I think I'll go ride the Harley.
Sam I knew there was a reason I you!
Ok well maybe several...but this one is way up there! Heck 83 is as cold as I want winter be....see Texas and the Desert were VERY similar....not to mention I was born on the Sahara so NEVER stood a chance....I've been destined for HEAT since I was born!

Look out... I don't! And I grew up in the same conditions... ya just gotta know how to drive on the stuff... speed is not your friend in winter, slow to the conditions, know how to handle a turn on ice and know when it's not safe to even venture out. As for the hills, find a less steep one. JM2CW.Driving in winter with snow/ice can be very frustrating. As someone who grew up driving in those conditions, drives an AWD vehicle with proper tires, I am constantly amazed at the drivers who don't. Just last week I had a pickup truck do a 360 on the highway in front of me, then having a series a smaller cars without snow tires unable to make it up the hills, just sliding around and backwards.

this was the plan....
play hooky from work for the latter part of the afternoon, drive out to the stable to arrive at about 3pm, get my two horses ridden before showering and dressing for dinner at the stable, meet my family for my niece's 18th birthday dinner at the restaurant at 7pm.
important side note - weather forecast was for the possibility of a light skiff of snow or rain as the temps were above freezing.
here is what happened....
I was about 4 miles from the stable when I hit SNOW STORM - pretty much a white-out.
I got to the stable and rode my horses - what the heck, I was there anyway.
about an hour in, the owner of the stable arrived to say that the highway was closed - massive stupid accident.
the snow dump totalled about 5 inches - I guess that is how some weather forecasters define "skiff"
family dinner was cancelled due to bad weather
I drove home from the stable in my car in bumper to bumper traffic on the "detour route" (secondary highway running parallel to main highway that was closed) and it took me 2.5 hours to make a typical 45 minute drive.
got home and had to shovel the driveway and put the winter weight in the back of my truck because I have to haul horses tomorrow
this is a perfect example of why winter sucks!!
I am counting the days to my New Year's liveaboard trip in the tropics.
Cheers, Baby It's Cold (Snowy) Outside !!!
