Hey Peter, If you don't mind me asking what do you have your conservatism set to? I have mine set to 25%

Each wreck has a tale to tell about its life and its demise.

If you are observant while diving in dark places listen to the account each has to tell, You cannot come away unaffected.

Never mind, I've worked it out. It's set to 33 (lower than the Wench uses), though I may try taking it down a bit further. In fact I've just changed it to 30, and I'll see what that looks like when I dive it. How sensitive is the computer to changes in this value?

It offers a fairly wide range of sensitivity as you are calling it. I know I could have the computer on 50 which is the approx half way point between Navy Seals and Old Farts since most of us are approx half way thru... LOL! and I could then set it for air 21% and it would track almost identical to my Adladin when it was set at 30%.

The reason is the Cochran measures almost every variable possible and does it REAL TIME. This increases the accuracy 100% which is measured by HUGE amounts of add'l bottom time compared to most other computers. :teeth:

I did manage to get my EMC20H into deco on a few second dives, but those were second dives with spells down at 130ft! Children - don't try this at home!

The beauty of this computer is not matter WHAT diving level you are...its the last computer most of us will ever need. Want it to be uber conservative BUT ALSO ACCURATE??? Check... it can do it!

Want it to track the same as another computer you have?
Check...it can do it!

Want the computer that measures the most variables AND records them at 1 second intervals for 180 hrs to 1480 hrs?
Check...it can do it!

Want a computer with a built in flight recorder?
Check...it can do it!

I could go on...but you get the picture! :cool1:

Look at Cochran's web site. there is a section where they reply to some reports that were spread about Cochran's failing when used in Deco diving in Bikini. It makes for a good read.

I had some problems with the lens protector from Cochran so I tried the cell phone lens protectors that you cut to fit from Walmart and they work great for me. wish I tried it a hundred dives ago.

Cochrans had a dreadful reputation in the '90's in Britain, for failing during dives. I knew absolutely no-one who would use one. I'm told those days are long behind them and on the strength of that I recently bought one. But have they had recent failures?

One thing that intrigues me about Cochrans is that in the manual it says they're not designed for deliberate decompression diving. MIne is equipped for trimix diving - surely they expect trimix dives to be "deliberate decompression" dives?

Cochran was like many companies...outsourcing caused issues but when they moved things inhouse and hardened the computer for the US NAVY...well things changed.

They are still old school about some things... the interface, fancy bells and whistles...but they are Top Tier in everything that counts.

And they are a stand up company as well. They are HUGE supporters of DIVE SAFETY and their computers are some of the safest if not the safest on the market.

But then they have to be...or the NAVY and ALL the diving militaries of the world would not have standardized on them! :respect:

Ok, new Cochran user here.

Bought a Gemini at the Baltimore Dive Show thru Kamala with all the bells and whistles. Set up Analyst on my desktop okay and configured my Gemini for a start. Got it wet for the first time this weekend and have a question or two. We will deal with just one for today. Us Old Farts can only handle one complexity at a time...lol. Anyway, I got home from my dives and plugged the Gemini unit into my desktop as instructed. Everything was fine and looks great. However, it seems I have to hook up the Gemini every time I want to access the dives. Is there a way to save the dives to my desktop to evaluate and study at my leisure without hooking up the Gemini?
I have a Predator and a Suunto d9 that allows me to download the dives to my desktop and evaluate them with various software. Is this option not available with the Gemini? If so, any hints on how to save it to my desktop.

Thanks,
Dave

I have a Cochran EMC20H(fully unlocked) but am thinking of getting a gemini. What I am wondering is, is it worth it? Does the integrated gas make it worth the cost?

Bula from Fiji!   Even with a computer as good as Cochran and I personally feel its the best or close to it...air integration adds a potential failure point that I do not find justifiable. OTOH...in my early days of diving it was extremely valuable to see how slowing my breath down extended my total dive time dramatically. So I guess the reason you want it will help to determine if its worth it. Also as with ANY integrated setup you should have an analog gauge set up which pretty much eliminates the 'one hose' rationale.

Oh sure, be all logical and stuff. Viciously saving me money.

Thanks for the perspective, the reality check helps. I was almost caught in an eBay frenzy. Now to buy that new wing instead.

Another question, why does it seem that cochran has fallen out of favor? I know they have always seemed sorta polarizing, which I don't understand anyway, lately no one I read about it talk to seems to like the cochran comps. Is it a cost thing? Or that they aren't flashy? When I read how the processing works, the tissue sampling, the rate of logging, the amount of adaptive calculations they do it still seems to me Cochran has the edge over just about anyone. Any ideas? Heck even dealers I have asked tend to steer people away from Cochran.
