My new Cochran just arrived today. Gracias Wench and Bill. At least I guess gracias as I did not have chance yet to try one out on Belize and Bonaire trips. So Red Sea for its initiation in just a few weeks. And my Oceanic nitrox computer is now the back up. :hiya: :welcome:

Short answer: you cannot do it 'on the fly' underwater.

Long answer: You can get gas switch to happen by programming the unit during your surface dive planning. You'll have to wade through the manual to learn how to do this properly.

Cochran has a Powerpoint tutorial available for free download at THIS SITE HERE. If you're interested. It gives a condensed picture of how their computers work (notably the EMC-20h).

I own an EMC-20H configured 2FO2.

I'll upgrade that configuration prior to the end of the year when I go over to the Dark Side after training with my latest gear purchase.

Good on the computer...bad on the dark side... (you should of waited until the dang things are :welcome: proof.) :hiya:

I'm not so sure---it may be the only way I can ever keep up with your SAC rate when on an SD trip!!

WW - Im feeling a little left out on the list :banghead:. Considering I own two Cochran's and probably worked with about a 100 over the years doing data collection during my DAN internship as well as before and since then. Also have put the analyst software through its paces to work some of the bugs out for doing mass data entry for DANs PDE Project. I will say yes there are other computers on the market but for any diving using 3 gas mixes or less I will stay with my Cochran's as they take a licking and keep on ticking!

EMC-20H - 3Fo2/2Po2 Fully loaded.
Gemini Plus 3Fo2/2Po2 with Monitor Wrist unit (might consider upgrading it to intelligent wrist unit)

Yes the unit I have will do 3 gas 3FO2 and 2 PO2. I'm not trimix qualified so I just turn that function off. I am not qualified to dive the dark side so I leave that function disabled as well. All of the manuals are availabe for download on the Cochran site as well as quick referance cards for each model.

Sounds a suitable replacement for my stolen VR3. How many $ (the cheapest possible way - I'm an impoverished tech dive instructor)?

I have a simple EMC-16 with all the bells and whistles. Never failed me and quite happy with it.
