Sounds a suitable replacement for my stolen VR3. How many $ (the cheapest possible way - I'm an impoverished tech dive instructor)?

They have a program for instructors for the EMC20 that gets you the unit at keyman or cost. I will find out what the deal is for you and let you know! kamala

Great! We'll get you the EMC16 with one nitrox or air gas loaded now and capable of adding the 2nd gas later, with 135hrs of memory and your basic black color with red backlighting. And we will bring it to NC for your trip! :-D

This reminds me, I messed up installing the scratch guard on my Cochran and I had to pull it off to be able to see while diving. Where do I go to buy a replacement?

Sorry I missed this. I will pm you...I also have your jacket from NC as well. Ok here are the basic differences:

EMC16 is 2 gas capable of the first gas being set to air aka 21% nitrox or any other nitrox setting. The 2nd gas is usually used for a 2nd gas you carry in a separate bottle of up to 100% 02. (Typical application is diving say NC racking up say 20-30 minutes of deco and then offgassing with the high 02 mixes that deco obligation in a fraction of the time. Therefore unless you are ready to do adv nitrox and deco procedures we usually suggest you add the 2nd gas later to save money now.) The good thing is the computer will allow you to upgrade without being obsolete.

EMC20 is a 3 gas computer doing all that the 16 does but also capable of diving helium as well for very advanced diving ie. trimix etc.

I will get you pricing for both. :tears:

... and the one I'm currently trusting my life to! I had some issues with my new EMC 20H, not problems with the computer itself but with my understanding of how it worked, and I'm glad to say Kamala put me in direct contact with Cochran who resolved my issues for me. I still miss buttons to play with underwater, but I have a feeling this computer will be with me for a long time to come. I set mine a little more liberally than Kamala runs hers, and on the first recreational dive of the day it stays pretty well in line with my Suunto Stinger (at its most liberal setting). By the third dive of the day, especially if I have been pushing the limits (as most diving here makes you do) the Cochran will give me up to 20 mins more no deco time than I get from the Suunto. The DiveRite computer I used to use as my main computer gave IIRC around the same performance, and in eight or nine years never put me in danger, so I'm happy to trust the Cochran at its present settings. I'll have to start trying out its more advanced settings soon.

I should add that I chose a particularly bright shade of lime/nitrox green for the case, on the basis that it would be distinctive. It's certainly that - never before have I had people making derogatory hand signals about my computer underwater. No-one will ever pick it up by mistake thinking it's theirs!
