*REVISED per 6gill's corrections: The HMS Chaudiere is purportedly "the first destroyer -escort to be sunk to form an artificial reef." [cite] She's 364' long laying on her port side. Her structure ranges from depths of 50' to 110'.

I'm not sure of the temps up that way - I'm thinking around 48 degrees. WW I'm heading up with RJ, so you know what kind of blast it will be!
Ooooohhhhh NOW I'm REALLY jealous! He is a blast!

I can't wait to hear all the fun and exciting details.
48 Degrees is not cold. Tony and I dove last winter in 42-43 degree water.
Funny thing was it was warmer in the water that night.
I am sure your topside temps will be warmer than the water even in Canada.

I'm headed to the Sunshine Coast and Porpoise Bay Canada (about 1.5 hours from Vancouver, BC) tomorrow for a long weekend. I'll be offline diving the HMS Chaudiere* (for the first time), fabulous walls, drift diving, and more! Emerald Sea - here I come!
*The HMS Chaudiere was the first of Canada's artificial reefs sunk in 1992! She's a 366' long destroyer laying on her port side. Her structure ranges from depths of 50' to 110'.
Hum....you come to play in my backyard and this is the first I hear of it?
For the record the Chaud is 364' while the others are 366',do you know why?
The G.B.Church was the first.
The time of the trip is dependent on the ferries so bring a book,DVDs and snacks.Which ferry you guys planning for?

Surprise!? I asked RJ a few weeks ago if you were going and he said he thought so.Hum....you come to play in my backyard and this is the first I hear of it?
Just posting info from Kals' site, since I haven't personally dove it with my tape measure... No clue why the 2' short. Bribes to keep the Church the longest at the time? For the record the Chaud is 364' while the others are 366',do you know why?
My bad, perhaps I mistook it as being the first and it is the first Destroyer sunk as an artificial reef? Again, info from Kal's site. The G.B.Church was the first.
11:20 Friday. The time of the trip is dependent on the ferries so bring a book,DVDs and snacks. Which ferry you guys planning for?
And I think I am just going to give up posting info about Canada. I am always wrong about it.
I just don't speak the language!

Sixgill, was the ship constructed 2' shorter or did it happen in the sinking process?

Ouch! So do I! Of course the Canadians liked it the other way! But who could blame them!

The 366' ship settled on her port side (~90o). The deck at the stern is 50-60' deep, at the superstructure is about 80' and at the bow is 90-100'. The bottom at the stern is about 80', at midship is about 110', beneath the guns is about 140' and the bow hangs over a ledge. Large, yellow cautionary buoys (X) are attached to the ship at the stern, mid-ship and bow. Orange and white mooring cans (X) are attached to the ship just forward of the superstructure and mid-mortor bay.
Oh and have a glass of wine for me!
