really?? thanks....i can die happy now.

:welcome:

I am a Southerner, i was taught to say yes ma'am/sir to anyone older than me basically.. but the other day I was at the grocery store and this girl, she had to be 16 or so asked me if i wanted my receipt in the bag.. i automatically replied "yes ma'am!"... then kinda studdered a bit and exited quickly. :cool1:

Actually, you use it anytime to show you haven't altered the quote when it doesn't follow current accepted spelling or grammer. That would include quoting our founding fathers. Jefferson didn't misspell words, but spelling rules were different 200 years ago (ok, so there were no spelling rules 200 years ago), however when quoting him it would often look like you were making typos. You either correct it to modern form (which I deplore) or insert <sic> to indicate it was that way in the original.

walter...this has nothing to do with anything, but i figured you'd know....

you know how when you quote someone, and they've misspelled a word, you put (sic) after the misspelled word?
what does sic mean? i never knew....

Spelled In-Correctly

That's a good mnemonic, but it's actually Latin, meaning thus or so.

As an aside, people also tend to confuse i.e. (id est - that is, used to define) and e.g. (exempli gratia - for example, used to illustrate).

I was a volunteer with the Sheriff's Dept and Phoenix Fire for a number fo years.
My brother and a couple of friends were also volunteers for the Sheriff's Dept and would work shifts together.

When we would deal with the public, we would show respect by addressing folks as Ma'am and Sir and even Miss. Usually when we delt with younger females we would address them as Miss.

However we would get that beligerent lady and would just go off by us addressing her as Ma'am as she "wasn't that old". We just called her Ma'am and told her out of respect. Of course we would start and end every sentence with Ma'am.

Emma,

After a little research I found women saying:

"made by shu uemura.........you can buy it at sephora.com."

"Voluminous by Loreal look for Waterproof sign on the package. Comes in 3 colors - black, soft black and brown"

"Max Factor Lash Finity mascara"

"LancĂ´me"

"Revelon water proof mascara"

"Maybelline Full'N Soft mascara"

"Maybelline and Estee Lauder make great waterproof mascara"

A couple of random thoughts....

1. Yes almost every thread goes off topic at one point or even several for just as good conversations...our thoughts go that way. We've discussed how to temper this a bit and came up with the suggestion that if people want the subject to stay ON topic that they need to express that in the first post and/or occassionally as needed. Otherwise I do not like the negativity that comes with monitoring people to stay on topic therefore we don't sweat it here...that is one of those small things in life that you aren't supposed to sweat.

2. As for waterproof mascara...most don't work that well and I've tried them all. I'm going to try having my eyelashes permanently dyed to see if that works better. I'll let you know!

3. Blue Angel...take it as a complement that your thread has taken on a life of its own...most do not. And of course anytime you want it to come back to topic...just ask a question about the original thread and it will...aka the question about the mascara is a perfect example.

Thank you for your thoughts Kamala,
I do appreciate them.
I do find the fact that this thread has gone on so long
a real compliment. And I love the way it just bounces around.
Thanks for the tip on mascara, I notice when I ask a makup person in a department store, but is it saltwater proof?? She just kind of go's uh? :lmao:
I dye eyebrows at the shop and it is saltwater proof, I use it!
But I have been too chicken to do eyelashes. I am going to give mine a try.

Sea Ya soon :)

Since I generally live out of a suitcase - and therefore work very hard to lighten my load, I have some experiences with "easy & dependable makeup". I tried the Permanent Lash Dye. What I never thought through was - the dye may be permanent, but the eyelashes aren't!!!

The solution I found is Permanent Makeup. I had permanent eyeliner, brows, and lips applied a few years ago and couldn't be happier. I find the eyeliner is plenty to enhance / open my eyes, and seldom even wear mascara (or any additional stuff) any more. The lips were actually the biggest improvement - something I learned by looking at other women's before and after pictures!
