Had an awesome dive in Sydney today. At Kurnell which is in Botany Bay. I was a shore dive with the Almities. Critters we saw
1) Octopus hiding in a hole
2) Cuttlefish (YES Paula. It was real this time!!!) :welcome:
3) 4 different kinds of nudies
4) Frog fish (though we call it something different because it didn't look like the frog fishes I'm used to.) It was so cute. It was gray and hiding under a rock
5) Portuguese Man of War
6) Big blue grouper (or as the Aussies say Groper)
7) Scorpion fish
8) Snowy Valute
9) Conspicuous starfish
10) and the star of the show. A weedy sea dragon. I was shocked at how big it was. About 10 inches long. I am so used to teeny tiny sea horses.

I sooo wanted to go to the Yongola. Too bad I didn't know those dudes were going to go but I had already booked my flight to Sydney

Sounds like you had a great time! Hope somehow you have a picture of the Weedy Dragon!

Thanks Mark. Way cool.

Today I saw a really big cuttlefish, maybe a foot or so long and a wobegon shark. Awesome. Then the Almity's dive shop had their Xmas BBQ. What a blast. Tonight we're going out for Chinese with Almitywife's family then tomm. I bid farewell to this fair land. :diver:

I'll need some help here. My email limits the size of attachments, and each of these is in the hundreds of megabytes.

Great diving with you we have to do it again soon. Our dive boys on the Nimrod said it was a shame I didnt do any deep dives on the trip LOL

Remember if you pass thru LA you can have a room anytime.

Yea, that was a real shame no one went for a deco dive :)
I took the casino for $400 yesterday! I felt bad thou and went back today and gave it all back to them :birthday:
If I would have pulled my head out I would have drove to go see the rock or something. We drove down and dove Ungala, rated one of the top 10 dives in the world. Who rates these things? The dive was very good but the dive outfit sucked! I knew it was a bad sign when we pulled up and there boat was sitting on the ground off it's trailer. It just went down hill from there. The refused to give my my inst discount because, get this, I didn't have NEXT years decal on my card! The topper was them refusing to give me a handfull of ice out of the fridge because I didn't buy it....
Now I need my wayward AOW student to do here paperwork :birthday: , hint hint...
My pics will be posted when I get back to AK, after teh first.
Gret trip y'all

To all of those who paid better attention during the dive briefs than I did, what was the name of Steve's Brommie before it was named Steve's brommie? Remember they said the previous name was moved to another site? What was Steve's Brommie before it became Steves Brommie?

Can't help you with that, but can say that I believe it's bommie which is short for bombora, an aboriginal word for the waves that break over the reef. (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/bommie)

Sounds like everyone had fun. I need to make it back down there. I keep thinking of moving there when things get stressful around here. Not sure I could deal with the slow pace down there and having everything shut down early, though.
