hi everybody...
a lot of people have been asking how my nephew kenny is doing. so i thought i'd post a short update....

kenny was finally weaned from his meds and then his ventilator this past weekend. it was pretty rough going for a few days....... it's so hard to see a vibrant, funny child with that vacant, non-focusing look. i guess it's understandable, since he's been in a coma for almost 2 weeks and had a whole lot of nastiness done to his little brain; but you can't help wondering if that funny little guy was coming back.

well, today we saw that he's still in there. my brother (kenny's gramps) and mary, his mom, and i were there with him, being goofy to see if he'd respond. he started laughing at his grampa being silly...a good, hearty belly laugh. and what was even better was that he focused right on us...responding to his name and trying to follow commands. he was even saying a few words! mary showed him the picture of kenny and chalupa wearing woody's hat...and he said "HOODY" (what he calls woody)....clear as day. and he answered simple questions, and even said 'mommy' and 'my daddy'. i can't tell you how wonderful it was to hear his voice again.

so kenny is hanging in there, improving every day. chemo's been started, and it's yucky and makes him sick, but it's killing those nasty cancer cells.

i just want to thank you all AGAIN for your thoughts and especially your prayers...they give IMMENSE comfort to mary, and i know they're working.

thank you and god bless all of you, as corny as that sounds....especially coming from a smart-ass like me. :dltears:

You know TF, It is not silly coming from anyone, dont even think that. God works in wonderful ways and he made children resilient for a reason. Its great to hear that Kenny is doing so well. Give him and all your family my best wishes.

God Blesses, so should we!

AWESOME, glad to hear he is doing well. He looks so much like my own son and is the right age I've had trouble responding to this thread, but my heart is with you and Kenny and I think about this every day. Keep us up to date please.

T- The news sounds good today. Hope the little guy does get to go home soooon. Glad the tumor is not growing again, that means the chemo is doing its work. Sorry he is having to go through all of this and hope he doesn't end up with a hate for the medical profession, as they are trying really hard to save his precious life.

hey everybody....my lil' butt is coming home!!!!

the oncologists and surgeons agree that he needs to spend as much time at home as possible. so they cut him loose today!!!

he's still very weak...being kept in a coma causes you to lose muscle tone. but every day he's geting stronger. mary had him up in his booster chair for 2 hrs. yesterday and he played nerf b-ball! AND he gave his nurse a high five.
of course, he's been very stubborn, refusing to talk to just anyone. that INCLUDES auntie butt....but at least i can make him laugh.

so thanks again to everyone here for your continued prayers. he's by no means out of the woods, and still needs those prayers. they sure are working!
