I'm guessing you're talking about "Vertical Limit" ... what a hoot. That scene where the guy with the iceaxes jumps across the crevasse ... his arms would have been torn from their sockets. Oh, and then there is that one with Sylvester Stallone, "Cliffhanger" where his girlfriend's harness buckle slips and she falls to her death ... I guess she shouldn't have stopped at Krispy Kreme before the climb because those are only rated to about 2000 pounds! Oh wait! What about Mission Impossible, where Tom Cruise free-climbs about a thousand-foot pinnacle? Can we file that under "Darwin Award"? Do these Hollywood folks think that there are no climbers in the audience?Actually movies like this are often a hoot- they get so many things wrong. Anybody notice the flash of that vicious man eating green moray eel shown? OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! (Play really scary music here) We all know how many people they kill every year. There were some adventure mountain climbing movies a few years ago that were hysterical in how bad they were- this will probably be the same.

A real pain in the neck for me to load too. Thank goodness I have admin rights! So, what's the real story behind this thriller? Did the couple survive?I had trouble viewing it too but eventually I got it. Hopefully people will realize how this type of thing is sensationalized in the movies.

Did the couple survive?
The couple in Key Largo did. I could be wrong, but I don't believe the couple in Australia were ever found.

Walter,Yes Laura, Kelley's left a couple on the reef over night. They no longer reply on a head count.
Is it just me, or does this seem like an incredibly stupid, neglectful practice (not doing a head count)?? It seems especially dangerous when the boat is packed with divers.
IMHO, even a head count is inadequate - I'd prefer that they do an actual roll call. When I was there several years ago, they called us out by name. If anyone didn't reply, the boat didnt leave. Seems pretty logical.
I wonder what made them decide to change this? It just doesn't make any sense to me (????)

Quite the reverse, actually.
A head count is always a bad idea! Especially so when you have more than 6 people on board. It's very easy to get a bad count. It's easy to have the right number, but not necessarily have everyone. It's not all that unusual for people to get on the wrong boat.
A roll call is the only way to know you have everyone. The roll call must be done properly to be effective. You must have everyone stop all activity and listen during the roll call. No one may answer for anyone else. You must do a roll call before leaving the dock and after each dive. Boards where people mark themselves off are not as effective.
Kelley's used to do a head count. After they left the couple they switched to a roll call.

I dove with Kelly's about 9 months after the incident. Their practices have changed greatly and it was annoying how many times they would ask what my name was. Pendulum swinging from one extreme to the other. I have heard reports from people who stayed there within the last year and now can honestly say I would dive with them. The first time I had no idea what had transpired. The best thing to do on a cattle boat is find some other folks, do a double check that those familiar faces are on board, and they do the same for you.
