Of course my favorite footage was the clip that showed the diver dropping in from the helicopter!
A FDNY diver was on CNN earlier today, and he says he was one of the first responders. He and his buddy when to the plane on a Circle Line Tour boat to the plane, they then swam to the plane and were the ones that went in to make sure there were no people still inside.
As an aside, MAJOR Thanks to the most amazing flying (and the ultimately awesome landing) of an aircraft. Airline pilots I know are most proud and impressed with Captain "Sully's" skill in getting the disabled plane safely out of the sky, and to the crew for getting all passengers +crew out of the plane without any serious injury. He deserves a "hero's" tickertape parade. Considering what "might have happened" if he when down on land in this area is beyond comprehension, either NJ side or Manhattan side.
Canadian geese --- deport them!

I agree!!!
I'm sure his AF (Air Force) training prepared him well. I know a similar pilot who made several of these crazy landings during his career...in several cases the plane was on fire yet still going too fast but he had to land it or risk being blown up...and land he did....safely but often times miraculously too as planes aren't supposed to hold togther when landing at some of those speeds.
Canadian geese --- deport them!

Just an amazing landing - I am with Hipshot - "Sully" won't have to buy a drink or a meal for a long time!!
You can add me to the list too...especially if he heads home to N. Texas!

Incredibly ill fortune to lose BOTH engines, but even more incredibly competent flying to put it down so harmlessly. I read the flight crew are to be decorated by New York - much warranted.
I will second that especially since the particular aircraft involved looses alot of control and flies like a brick when the engines fail because the flight control is fly by wire computer controlled.
That must have been one heck of a flock of birds to cause dual engine failures.
I was working yesterday when this happened so i would love to see a video of the landing. Where is the jumping diver video?

Has anyone found video of the actual landing?
Here in NYC this has been the focus of the news all evening last night, and all day here, too. There has NOT been a video of the plane actually "bellying in on the water" shown on any TV channel yet, in NYC.
This is despite there being a bazillion security cameras everywhere in NYC. Who knows if there is one, but the owner is holding back, has turned it in to the NSTB or what, but there has been no video yet released of the actual landing. I have seen video of the plane "nearly" landing, very fuzzy, low res shots that were just a second or two.
I still think all Canadian geese should be deported, immediately!

Funny, the first thing I thought (after a heartfelt "thank God" upon hearing no one was killed) was that he must have previously been a military pilot.
