Back in '03 I was practicing breathholds and tailswimming in the pool at Texas A&M in prep for an underwater photo shoot. The lifeguards started calling me the Mermaid Lady, and it just stuck.

Simon...

hehehe, I'm not sure which is worse. You explaining it or my understanding it! Salvatore is one of my favorite authors. The only one that I try to consistently keep up with as he writes new books.

My name came when I was trying to come up with a name for an email account several years ago. I had moved 4 times in 7 years and so the name seemed like a good idea. I've used it as often as possible since that point in time.

When I first began to snorkel in the Caribbean years ago, my favorite fish was the damselfish. I moved to Traverse City 6 years ago, hence the name. When I joined SD, and realized the Damselfish was already being used, I was a kind of embarrassed  , but I should have known!

I wanted to be as unique as possible, and I also intend to dive Oz some day.

It's a reminder of both.

Sparky the Wonder 'Treme is something else entirely. He's the real Party Monotreme of the two of us, and has stowed away for every dive trip I've made with SD no matter how hard I've tried to leave him behind. Makes out like a bandit with the ladies, he does...

My screen name comes from an old comic strip, Rick O'Shay, started by Stan Lynde (pronounced like "wind" the verb, not the noun) in 1958. Rick O'Shay was the deputy sheriff in the mythical town of Conniption, and a philosophical gunslinger named Hipshot (Hipshot Percussion to use his full name) was his best friend. See the image below. Hipshot is the gentleman seated on the left; Rick O'Shay is seated on the right, and Stan Lynde is standing between them.

Rick O'Shay combined humor with real-life subjects. Most comic strips of that time were either serious/soap-opera stories (e.g., Brenda Starr) or humorous (e.g., Beetle Bailey). Perhaps Charlton Heston said it best in his introduction for the book pictured below: "...Lynde is the only cartoonist I can think of who has a foot in both camps." BTW, that was a very amusing book.

When I came to the Nickname field while registering on the SD site, I originally entered Beth without thinking because that's alwasy been my nickname instead of Elizabeth. Then while in Belize in November 2007 the WW came up with Bubbles!

My nickname comes from the buddy system, if you run out of bubbles you got mine buddy... and visa verse.

Fingrabber

and I have the dubious destinction of naming the

Bubble2Bubble to Bubski after a few margaritas and a :usflag: back rub in Cozumel in 2004 while on a SD trip.
