Hey, Florida members! I've put a quick 3-day trip together to do some checkout dives in Ft. Lauderdale. I'll be available on Fri 5/1 and/or Sat 5/2 for a Happy Hour. I'm pretty sure the checkout dives will be in the morning on those 2 days, so afternoon and evenings are free! Suppose I can always dive more, but meeting some of you sounds like fun too!

I'll be staying at the Ramada Hollywood Beach Resort, but I will have a rental car to get around in......just need directions! :teeth:

Any Florida members want to get together while I'm in town??
If so, where is the best place to meet, that a stranger can find easily??

If there is a south Florida HH Planner, I'm willing to work with you to pull this together. This will also give our awesome FL members a chance to participate in our Care & Share Program.

So, who's in, what day works best for the locals, Fri or Sat, and where do we meet?

Its a great excuse for me to go "south" to dive.... perhaps Pompano Beach ? I don't know any places down in Ft Lauderdale. I bet there's some good artificial wrecks there!

I will make a motion....
Happy hour somewhere in the Fort Lauderdale area on Friday May 1 and a Florida Dive-of-the-month the morning of May 2.

Sounds like a good excuse for you folks in South Florida to get together!!!

That same weekend Diverdeb and I will be having a mini-Florida Happy Hour in Pensacola. My LDS is diving the Oriskany on May 2nd and we are supposed to have dinner that night in Pensacola, and hopefully she will be able to join us. Unfortunately we are not diving with Debbie's dive shop, but maybe we will see each other out at the Oriskany too.

Wish I could make it, but I will be cave diving in the Yucatan at that time. Have a great time, everyone!

I had lunch with Scubagoddess today and she agrees that it sounds like a great idea. Hope I don't get into trouble for speaking out of turn, hehe. As far as I know, (since I am not in charge and dont pay good attention...) we are good with Alan's plan. We hope to get some more locals to show up as well. Perhaps even as far as "Babs" country! Have a good day everyone.

I just checked my schedule and I'm in for Saturday dive if you guys get one going. I'll head down Friday, 5/1 after work so will be a bit late for HH unless I can slide out a little early. :cool1:

When Landlock diver tells us where she is diving with the students, I think the rest of the plan will fall into place fairly easily.

Landlockdiver; How big is the boat you are using for your student trip? Would you like a bunch of singledivers.com on the boat with you ? (Drop us in the water separate from you and the students of course.)

I've booked the checkout dives with Divers Direct, the SSI shop in Dania Beach. It's just me, though, as one of my proteges has injured a leg and has been told to wait until her torn muscle has healed before diving. I have 2 checkout dives on Fri morning, and 2 on Sat morning. The instructor has not yet gotten back with me on the details of where I meet a boat and what time, etc. I will call him again tomorrow. I hope they do afternoon dives too, so I can dive for fun on Fri afternoon and maybe another one or two Sat afternoon.

I would love to dive with you guys, and have a HH too! When we confirm the plans, I will email So. FL members with an invite to the HH. I gotta get my Singapore Slide working! :birthday: :birthday:

Well, it turns out that Divers Direct do not own their own boats, so they're not sure at this point which boat they will hire for Sat. morning. I have given them a heads up that my friends from SingleDivers.com will be contacting them to schedule to dive on Saturday morning (2 tank boat diving). I guess they will pick a boat big enough to handle all who schedule the dive, so give 'em a call (PM me for the number, or look them up on the internet - it's an obvious www addy!) Just be sure to tell them you want to be on the same boat Sat. 5/2/09 as the the student named Tammy who is coming in from Kansas City for checkout dives! The instructor they assigned to do my checkouts is Dave Portnoy - just in case they need that info.

Now, all we need is for somebody to find us a place for a HH that afternoon/evening! Anybody have any suggestions?

And Brad, isn't the Singapore Slide more fun when everybody's doing it?? :teeth:

I won't be able to dive that afternoon because I arrive from Montreal around 4PM but might join you for happy hour...Is someone staying for a few more days so we can go diving an other day?
