I got the following update from Dave's parents:

I’m sorry it has taken me so long to get this to you, but just a short update on Dave’s condition.

He was still in the hospital yesterday morning and was much more alert than he had formerly been. He’s talking some now but not fully. He is becoming more active in movement, seemed restless yesterday and told his Mother he “needed to get up and out of here”. They had him out of bed and sitting in a recliner chair for an hour.

Please keep him in your prayers and I will try to update you weekly or so.

I will try to get an address for anyone who would like to send him a card. I will post any further updates I get.

Please keep Dave in your prayers and meditations...he really needs them!

I am devastated by the news I received today. It seems so surreal like we'll all wake up to find this was a horrible nightmare. I can not believe that David is gone. I had just talked to him before his freak stroke and we were planning stuff for the Galapagos trip. And he was giving me some photo advice and we yakked about old times....

I am crushed...:-D

Dear Friends of David,

Sadly, we must inform you that our son David passed away today at the Cleveland Clinic from complications of the stroke he suffered on July 20th. He was progressing with rehabilitation at the St. Francis Health Care Center in Green Springs on Friday August 7th when he suffered another incident from which he could not recover. David had chosen to be an Organ Donor and at least two lives will be saved or extended as a result of his thoughtfulness.

Friends may call on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. James Gaston, Pastor of the North Fairfield United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in North Fairfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department or to the North Fairfield American Legion.

Online condolences may be made by going to www.edwalkerfuneralhome.com.

Gordon and Kathy Oney

My deepest sympathies go out to Dave’s Family. It is at times like this that words fail. God speed and fair seas

If you are observant while diving in dark places listen to the account each has to tell, You cannot come away unaffected.

I'm sure I'm as stunned as everyone else is at this sad news. We'll all remember Dave, "The Big O", in our hearts and memories. He had a great ability to take great underwater photo's with a cheap camera. A quiet guy with a great sense of humor and a big smile. The fun trips we had together diving in different parts of the world... we'll never forget that Fiji trip. Or the time on the Turks & Caicos trip when he looked in from the dive deck before a night dive, "Do I look disgusted!?!?!?".

We're gonna miss you buddy!

My sympathy to his family and friends.
I know he made the trips more memorable and fun for all.
He will be missed, but never forgotten.
