Hey Rosa...great report! And thanks for the heads up on the adpts...do we also need converters? I have not looked it up yet but surmising yes. (I fried mine on the Red Sea trip so need to get another one.)

Last dive today. Majorly bummed. Need another trip soon lol.

Current here is 220. But most electronics these days are dual 110 and 220. So if so, you should not need a converter. I did not use one the entire trip. All my battery chargers, ipod, iphone, laptop chargers, ear dryer, speakers, hair dryer etc were dual. But definitely bring some adaptors.

Those with ear problems, make sure to bring your vinegar/ etoh/ peroxide mixes or whatever you use. The water is not the cleanest and you will be diving a lot. I got the current equivalent of Domboro's solution (Bausch and Lomb.. you need a prescription), it is

I also brought my sudafed and ear dryer which was invaluable. I got mine online... originally $99. Amazon has them now for $35. (Mack's EarDryer by Mack's). Mack's amazon My roomie said she got hers at Target.

Also, bring imodium and possibly cipro etc for the runs. Almost everyone came down with something the second week... not as bad as the Red sea trip though.

Although it is overkill, most people are taking some form of malaria prophylaxis. Definitely bug juice needed.


Since I know how the SD parties are run, I HAVE to warn you...I am only speaking for my itinerary, but the same may apply for other transit points. I flew Singapore air LA to Narita/ Tokyo and on to Singapore. At Narita, they made EVERYONE get off the plane WITH all your carry on stuff. You had to go through security as you exited the arrival gate and got back into the airport. They took away any fluids over 3ml. So if you buy duty free alcohol in the US and go through Narita, you lost it. Kamala, you may remember this from the Wakatobi trip. SO if you want to bring alcohol (and it is suggested because drinks here were very expensive at both resorts) buy it and pack in checked luggage.

Thanks Rosa. For people that are sensitive to RUNS there is a vaccine that is called Dukoral that you take 2 weeks before the trip ...you drink it...cost in Canada about $50 but it is good for 3 months! You need a prescription but it is worth it!

Does not appear that we are. Earlier today, I got a travel advisory from the US Embassy in Jakarta that said the impact of the volcano and earthquake was limited to West Sumatra and Central Java. Both are well over 1000 miles from our destination.

There is also some discussion in the private forum on this.
