As i don't really have much need for it down here in Belize, if you have excess demand for these things I may choose to divert the money paid elsewhere (to someone else).

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

Hey gang I have some good news for you...not great but good. The company has the first production run in house and they look great. They are now doing their OWN field testing to determine if they perform as intended.(They are afterall life support and the inventor does not want his name on something that does not work or does not work as he intended it too!)

While not great news in the sense that we will have them in our hot hands any sooner than early to mid May which is still the estimated ship dates to dealers...the fact that they are in house and being tested is great news. I hope to have some test results for you soon. - kamala

Like you said…it’s not great news, but it is very good, and I do like their thought process, and makes it that much easier to depend on something like that in the time of a crisis, knowing that it works!
I would much rather them take the extra care testing their product to insure proper operation then to release it prematurely and it fail. Like you said it is like a reg or other piece of dive equipment...it is life support and necessity, and it would suck to have it malfunction in a crisis. That would be catastophic. I say," test it until you are satisfied".....I can wait.
Meanwhile.....DIVE BABY DIVE!

That was my thought too...right AFTER the sad disappointment of not having it for Truk and Palau!

But they have one chance to get it right...a little longer to make sure its perfect is worth the wait!

BATTERY INFO:

Great question Greg...here is what they say:

We will have a bulk charger available to charge multiple units at the same time. The Lifeline has a whopping big 1850 mAh lithium ion battery (that's big!). The spec for 1 hour of chat time and 24 hour data transmission is based on 70% battery. If the unit is carried by divers but not used for voice communications (ie. in a guest BCD pocket and left there), it will take 2 - 3 months for the battery to degrade to 70% charge (even longer on a fairly new unit). It's easy to tell what the battery charge level is as there is a battery indicator light on each unit.

WARRANTY INFO:

Q. How long is my unit covered by warranty?

A. The Nautilus Lifeline limited warranty covers manufacturing defects only and is valid for 2 years from the date you take delivery of your unit. This warranty does not cover misuse or abuse, including meddling by unauthorized persons or repair facilities. This warranty does not cover flooding as a result of customer misuse/neglect or improper care and maintenance. This warranty does not cover damage or flooding if the unit is submerged without the lid being properly latched or if the o-ring is not clean and clear of contamination. Flooding damage is only warrantied if there is a manufacturing defect. All warranty return units will be tested in a pressure pot to determine the cause of flooding. If you damage your unit through physical abuse it will not be covered by warranty ie. If you drive over your unit with a vehicle it will not be covered by warranty. The Nautilus Lifeline is intended to be used as a tool to aid in your safety. It may not save your life. Questions or concerns should be directed to info@nautiluslifeline.com

Q. Is it true that I can replace the unit free of charge?

A. We have a 'no questions asked' return policy for the 2 year warranty period EXCEPT for flooded units. If a unit floods because of a defect in material or workmanship we will cover it. If a unit floods because of a dirty o-ring or misuse, we will replace it for a reasonable fee under our lifetime service plan.

This warranty does not cover damage or flooding if the unit is submerged ..... if the o-ring is not clean and clear of contamination

That seems to me a "get out of jail free" card for the manufacturer. Under what circumstances would the user be able to prove that the O-ring was clean and free of contamination at the time of flooding?

THEIR REPLY:

Hi Kamala,

Thank you for informing us of this. We were only aware of the following article by Sport Diver Magazine http://www.sportdive...tilus-lifeline. Please let me know if I can do anything else for you.

Sincerely,
Margaret

MY REPLY:

So when is your tentative release date on the gps? People are getting antsy to get them and I hate to keep telling them 'we don't know' or 'we have no idea' vs. 30-60 days if all goes well or 90 days. We really need some sort of good faith estimate. For example when are the trials supposed to be over? Thank you, Kamala

Let me check. I'm frustrated too but my original estimates were May best case and most likely June due to previous experience in the manufacturing world. So I'm still good for a couple more weeks to see where this stands.

I'm in Barbados so will check as soon as I can and advise accordingly.
