Hello Pearldiver,

I was just passing some idle time, reading through old posts, and saw your question on the Nitrox course. My sister was going on her first Single Divers trip this spring. She wanted to get the Nitrox cert prior to her trip, so she could start her diving on Nitrox. With the help of Kamala, my sister took the online course through Bill prior to her trip, and took and passed the test online. Kamala spent a little time with my sister at the beginning of the trip, going over the analysis and log book process and such, and my sister was good to go with Nitrox for the week. Although uncertain, I do believe it was a PADI course. I dont remember the cost of the course, but I do know that it was cheaper than what the shop in Palau was charging, plus she did not have to start her trip diving air. I appreciated the ease and convenience, as well as the assistance from both Kamala and Bill, and I do recommend you consider them as an option for the Nitrox cert. For clarity, I have no personal interest there. Just a satisfied customer.

Ed

Thank You Ed!

That sure sounds like the way to go. I did purchase the PADI enriched air nitrox manual and all relevant items mandatory for certification. Whatever way I go I could use a head start in the reading and bookwork part of the learning. I sure like the idea of starting a week diving in Bonaire with Nitrox.

Thanks again!

Mike

Thank you Ed. Yes this is a great option...gives you time to do the book work and be ready to do the hands on when you get there! Still trying to tie up loose ends but will get you the pricing etc as requested.

Thank You!
No rush as I have plenty to read.

Thank you PearlDiver....I hope to have the nitrox info answered for you soon. I'm heading to our annual tradeshow in Fl as we speak for the rest of the week then off the Roatan. But I have not forgotten you!

We'll have a special link for you to do the class online if you go that route. This is important as its how the student is assigned an instructor so we'll probably have both options...take the class in advance via the online option and take the class in person via the traditional classroom method.

But I'm with you...better to start the week DIVING nitrox! kamala

By adventure or specialty dives, I was wondering if there was a way to try something and see if you liked it before committing to a specialty course. I'm thinking about night dives in particular.

1319132884[/url]' post='292556']
Hi LittleMermaid...welcome! We'll be happy to the Dive Mentor program with you! When you say adventure or specialty dives etc what do you mean?

The lionshare of what the night diving specialty is...is learning to do a night dive. If you have NEVER done a night then then taking the specialty and learning to do it right with an instructor IS THE WAY TO GO. If you have done one before then diving with someone else is fine but I'm guessing you have not done one and the course will teach you RIGHT. You need to learn light signals and all sorts of things that are best suited in an instructor/student environment.

Maybe I've watched too many scary movies and not enough happy nice ones about the sea at night! I'm just a little leery of getting creeped out. Is anyone else interested in a night diving specialty?

Count me in on any night dives! Calabas is great at night.

There will be plenty of late afternoon, evening/transition, night and (shudder) dawn dives done on the resort's house reef, never fear! It's not formal, however. Typically, after the 3rd boat dive of the day, on the ride back to the resort someone will state their intentions to dive at X time, and others will either chime in that they want to dive too, or make their own plans with their buddy.

We'll just want to plan night dives around the two group dinners.....and we have a hard-and-fast rule that once you take your first drink of an alcoholic beverage, you're done diving for that day.

Tammy we could consider setting up one night as a night dive for sure so no other events conflict with it! Then the other night dives can be more adhoc as usual.

All the Wench has to do is designate a night for a group house reef night dive, and it will be announced - probably at our first group meal.
