Hey, BlueDolphin,
I think it's an idea worth investigating. What's the harm?

I had thought about a chat room at one time, but may be difficult to have a discussion when you get a bazillion people online.

True, but as others pointed out, we normally have just a few on at any given time. Everyone wouldn't necessarily be participating. Instant messaging is something we can already do through other services such as AIM, Yahoo or ICQ. It's a good idea if we organize it.

I agree PMs are useful and at times lots of fun, but they're not the same as IMs. There's something to be said for real time discussions. I like this idea.

Has this site considered a chat room? Would anyone else be interested? I think it would be another great way to meet others!

Hi BlueDolphin...instant communication is a great idea! I think we can look into what it will take to allow our software to accommodate it. :dazzler: I like others are not a quick typist so I'm not very good at it but most people love IM or chat rooms.

Thank you for suggesting ideas on how to make our site better...hopefully we can implement all of our member's ideas on how to make our site more fun and a better place to hang out!

Please do post an intro...that is the way we use on our site to meet new members and to get to know them! If you read other member's intro you'll see what we mean!

A chat room is a great! I wouldn't be surprised if it's been in the back of ZD's mind for a future upgrade. 'Course, the some of us would never get anything else done.... :dazzler:

I think it would be a great idea :dazzler: , whilst there are quite a few scuba diving forums out there, there are no chat rooms exclusively for divers. Except on IRC, but they are usually hard to find and pretty empty.

The forums are great for discussions/questions about diving, as the whole community gets to comment rather than the few that are online at that time, unlike a chatroom.

However its a great idea for getting to know each other which I suppose IS the main aim of this site. We'll have to see if ZD thinks its feasible........but I say
The sea does not belong to despots. On its surface iniquitous rights can still be exercised, men can fight there, devour each other there, and transport all terrestrial horrors there. But at thirty feet below its level their power ceases, their influence dies out, their might disappears.

PM's are just that private messages

Chat is a public forum.

For example I could send PMs to who i thought would now something.

or

In a chat room I could ask everyone what they thought of air 2's

I'm still for a chat room. i think it would bring most of our members back to watch it or join in it.

Hey Maxdiver,

That is a great idea, can it be linked to this site somehow?

It is always interesting to see what directiions a new site will take and where it will go. SingleDivers has a lot of potential and it definately targets a very specific segment of the diving community that has received little attention in the past.

Just coming on the tail end of this, but we have a chat room on both sites that aren't used...
I'm pointing this out as with a few members, under 1000, only a few would be using it when there's something to talk about... so it shouldn't be "Full" so-to-speak.. you can check it out at :
http://www.snapnshoo...index&name=Chat

takes a minute to load and also two people to make it happen, unless you like talking to yourselves... it's plug in, $20 or so...
Not the best, but something that can work...
Just a thought..
Hope that helps...

ps. To avoid confusion, I'm certainly not trying to suggest you use it at Snap, simply trying to point out that it's simple to install, cheap and will work. You can look at snap to see if that system might work.
