Thanks John....there is a lot but I've been in trip posting mode. Will get our private forums opened ASAP!

Also can anyone help Elias out with bringing a strobe to him for the LEMBEH trip???

John can you help with that? He'd really appreciate it. I'm going to Maldives first so not enough time to get me the strobe. :thankyou:

Sorry.
I am allowed one luggage, and 2nd is $70 each way just to get from Chicago to Singapore. So I am going to cut corners and limit everything to one luggage, and one carry-on (with housing, regs, and mask).

If only I could wear my BCD and wetsuit onto the plane :banghead:

He is willing to pay for baggage overage fees if you want a 2nd bag? The strobe is not too big but will get you a fee 2nd bag!!!

Let me know and/or if anyone else is a taker?

[...] According to the resort, the electricity is 220 V and they have 2 pin socket:

[...] So if you plan to bring anything electircal, you will need adapter/converter.

Additionally, for the electrically challenged and those of you who haven't dealt with this stuff before --
Please note that plug adapters and voltage converters are two separate things!

Most electronics these days have universal transformers that will accept any voltage. These items should be marked as such, e.g., "Input 100-240V, 50-60Hz". These devices will only need a plug adapter to function. Please also note that plug adapters will generally only support a single device...

I've been traveling across a dozen countries over the past eighteen months with a universal plug adapter and a three-port power strip (but no voltage converter). Both of these items are ungrounded (because some countries sockets are ungrounded) but the power strip will accept grounded plugs and has a fuse that will blow if there is a power surge, protecting anything that is plugged into it.

Well, one way, at any rate... ;)

The offer was intended to address the concern of baggage weight, rather than number of bags, but I would be willing to pay for an additional bag one-way if it would provide suitable 'encouragement'.

Also, please remind me to share a most unfortunate tale of international shipping and underwater photography when we're in Lembeh.

If paying in cash, payment should be made in USD. Should you wish to pay in another currency, we also accept EUR and SGD cash, but will convert from USD at the day's bank exchange rate. Alternatively, payment can be made by Visa or Mastercard credit card, in Rupiah, converted at the day's bank exchange rate.Due to a recent change in Indonesian banking policy, you can no longer use traveler cheques in local shops, dive centers and resorts. These can now only be cashed in local banks by the owner of the cheque. (Please note that the only Traveler Cheques accepted by the local banks are American Express USD cheques.) You can draw cash in Rupiah from the ATMs at the local banks using your PIN (personal identity number) and you can draw up to 3,000,000 Rupiah on Visa or Mastercard at the local banks but only before 2pm (you must present your passport with your credit card). Banks and ATMs offer a reasonable exchange rate.

This is all the info I could find about the resort. I will send them an email and ask about the electricity and the hair dryer. I just don't know how you will get by without one Larry!

  • 12 rooms, air-conditioned
  • All rooms have private ensuite bathrooms with hot water, shower and western toilet
  • Single, twin or double beds
  • Outdoor restaurant
  • Lounge bar (satellite TV)
  • Professional Indonesian Spa
  • Photo & Video Center
  • 4 indoor camera rooms with work spaces, desktop computer and charging points
  • 4 indoor quiet lounges with book & DVD library
  • Resort boutique
  • Free WiFi internet connection

Here is the response from the resort regarding Larry's questions:

1) Are there hair dryers in the rooms?
- Yes there are hair dryers

2) Should the guests bring 120/110 volt adapters with them?
- Please kindly note that electrical sockets carry 220 V and here in
Indonesia we have two pin plugs, model Schuko
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schuko) therefore you could use schuko plugs
and all the unearthed two pin plugs.

One and half days before we depart for the trip!

I noticed that most of us will arrive at Manado on 3/4 at 1:05 pm, so we probably will meet on the plane from SIN to MDC. (Any exceptions?)

Almost finished packing. Anything is called for THIS trip other than the regular stuff?
Special medicine?

I noticed that I have exactly 6 hours of layover (3:25 - 9:25 am), so I hope I can just hang in the terminal (cafe, bar, whatever) without having to book a transit room.

See you soon. :hiya:
