:teeth: I am so glad to hear your son is doing better. As a mother, I can relate to your fear for your son. My son will be 21 years old on March 1st. I don't know what I would do without him. I have been very fortunate that he has always been in good health, and generally well behaved for the most part. Now that he is almost legal, I will have a whole new set of rules for him. I remind him often that he is never to old for me to kick his ass if he screws up!!

Sandy

i hope that your son continues to see the light, but if steps out again feel free to PM me as im in the Dallas area and willing to come chat with him to see whats going on. personally i know from experince what happens when you self diagnose and stop the meds. I have crohns disease that effects the GI tract and can be painful at times, as i will explian below.

this was back in 2000 and i had just graduated from HS and being 18 i felt invinsable and on top of the world, well during that summer i worked at a summer camp and went well but some time during that summer i stopped taking my meds because i felt so good and thought they werent doing anything at all. well all went fine for about 4 weeks when a couple weeks in to my first semester of college when one night i had a pain in my lower right side that felt like it was stabbing, well i dismissed it as something i had eaten, well the next morning it was horrible like my guts were twisted, and i was in the fetal position and not moving. well by the end of the day i was in such bad shape that my parents took me to the ER. well they werent sure what it was since it could be a appendix problem or my crohns. so after a trip to radiology it wasnt my appendix but the same area that was inflamed to 3x the normal size. well after the ER doc saw that they said i needed to be transported to Childrens in dallas as this is where my doc was and i already had a complete history there and they knew how to take care of this. so well at midnight they transported me to CMC Dallas where i was in there for 2 pain full weeks. during those 2 weeks i wasnt given any pain killers as those might mask sysmtoms so i was hurting pretty bad until all of the antibodics and steriod kicked in. 2 weeks might seem like a short time but not really when your in pain, cant sleep and not wanting to eat because of what pain it might cause 2 weeks is a lifetime. well about a week and half in i started to turn around and could eat but still not near my normal appitite. well after two weeks i was well enough that they could send me home.

well i did fine for about a month then ended up with a obstruction and caused another trip to the ER that required some pain killers and steriods as i was in bad shape and couldnt stop throwing up. well besides the pain killers a dose of remicade was added to see if it could give some relief, and the day after i felt much better and was released.

well things went fine for a little while but then shortly after the new year the same symptoms showed up again, and ithought maybe it was gas pain until i had a routine CT scan that reviled i had multiple strutctures of my intestines some as small as the width of a hair, so after that scan i wasnt allowed to go home i was admitted and two days later had surgury to remove the strictured section.

This condition isnt fatal but the pain at times can make you wish you were dead! I also never told my doc that i stopped my meds but i know him to well enough that he knew but never said anything at the time only recently did he ask me about it and i told him the trueth, and his responce when i told him all of this was "I knew".

well since that day i have never neglected my meds since then and i will tell you it has made a incredable difference, yes i still get sick but not as bad as that one episode. even though i was only off my meds no more then 3 weeks(and started taking them again after getting released from the hospital) it caused me 3 months of pain and suffering that resulted in a surgury that took me 6 months to recover from. so sandy if you need help in keeping your son inline, let me know

sorry for the long story but worth telling

Scubatooth - thank you very much for sharing your story - best of luck controlling your condition. I will keep you in my prayers.

Chris and I saw his cardiologist yesterday. The cardiologist called me today with the reports from his tests - He's doing fairly well - he has a leaky valve (sounds funny I know) and it continues to slowly leak - but other than that - he's holding his own.

I really thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers.
