Come join our first ever EXPLORATORY dive the GRAVEYARD of the ATLANTIC for amazing Wrecks & Sharks in Morehead City NC. Weather permitting we will aim for FAR Offshore Wrecks such as the Naeco, Cassimir, etc and aim for discovery of possible new wrecks as well as do some light technical diving on the all time classic signature wrecks such as the Schurz, Pappoose, Carib Sea, Aeolus etc.  Since this is a 5 day diving charter we may include 1-2 dives on shallower wrecks to rack up some bottom time and offset some of our nitrogen loading. NOTE: Divers will need add'l skills and abilities to do this more advanced trip.

Brad can you set up the forum for this so I can do the save the dates topic?

Also I sent an email to all the participants to see if they wanted to do 4 or 5 days of diving. I will tally the results and decide the duration based upon that feedback.

Having got some crud on the last trip I'm not feeling great and it is really slowing me down. I don't really need the inputs.  I know what to do and fixing anything I get wrong is easy.  It won't be much.

Darn good thing this is Real SD Veteran attendees only; that boldfaced formula would scare off the average prospect IMO not having even an estimate of the fuel surcharges until after actually going out on the boat??? That captain has a responsibility to fix a price this close to the trip dates and assume a little risk, so far it is only Kamala and those going.

Yes and no. Yes its always been a friend's trip and has been from the get go.  We never really planned to have anyone but an SD veteran on the trip.  We set it up with the same 7 going that are actually going and have discarded others interested...even one who has been with us before so that the group was just right to truly do what we wanted to do and do something very unique and possibly a once in a lifetime chance.

 

The pricing model was always a base cost of an 8 hr day or more for an 11 hr day (we have to decide which based upon how long we stay out and/or how far away the wreck is) and we pay for fuel based on where we went but we got the latitude of doing 3 dives on one wreck or even 3 in one day without rushing to get back to the dock for an afternoon charter like some operators... and/or we could do some casual deco ie 15-20 mins per dive vs 0 for ALL other operators and we could choose wrecks that were too small to put 18 on or too far away for the slower boats or too deep for the usual NC crowd etc.  It was all the flexibility that was the lure...oh and diving with a small subset of our friends.  

 

Oh and if we got really out there we could choose to do an exploratory dive on coordinates that fishermen say are a wreck but no one has published it. Or we could for sure dive on a wreck that is not published or charted yet that someone else has found and Al has finally given me permission to even offer to you since he now knows everyone. (If we had even one person he did not know he would not have offered it to me)  Or we could even stay overnight on the boat and do a wreck that is a much longer run away.  When fuel was less than $2 a gal I assumed $2 a gal for my planning purposes and thought this trip would be a great idea. Sadly fuel has skyrocketed past $2 and in NC went up to $6 a gal.  It has come down to $4.50 to $5 a gal so over 2x what I originally envisioned.  Hotel taxes have increased over last year and he told me that he would have to pass that tax onto us if it went up. So I knew that upfront but hoped it would not go up. He kept his room rates TO US the same despite his costs going up due to his insurance skyrocketing on him.

 

So the trip was always a base + fuel trip but with fuel all over the map its been difficult to pin down the numbers. I am speaking with him today and he will give the costs its been running for other people going out in the past week or so. This is as close to what we will encounter that I can get.

 

That pricing will be firmed up as much as possible this afternoon but rooms will be $75 pp / night d/o and $150 pp per night s/o. The estimate for diving was $225-250 per day for the base and fuel based upon what others have experienced for an 8 hr day. If we do an 11 hr day and even further wrecks then we are looking at $275-300 per day assuming really long day due to really far away wreck.

 

And we opted to get 5 days of diving in but we may be able to cut back 1 if we need to for cost reasons but I gotta tell him asap.

 

Life has truly sucked with fuel rising so high... it affects everything.
