Hi all;
Kamala's recent post under DAN and trip insurance is something to seriously look at. MS Emily might just throw us a BIG curve before the weeknd is over.
Insurance was very cheap. $53 for full coverage is pretty low.

Thanks for the reminder. I thought through my Dan policy I had the coverage since I had the preferred plan. You spiked my curiousity and I checked, It did not cover it. I signed up for the coverage tonight and it was accepted. I think you may be right, tonight on the news it said that the Storm would hit land on the Yucatann coast around Cancun-Cozumel tomorrow at Midnight. We can only hope it changes course.
Thanks again for the reminder--Dennis--Z--Scubaman

Hey gang...friendly reminder...DAN or equivilent insurance is required for all SD.com trips.

Trip insurance is totally different and is not required but strongly suggested. DAN's premier master plan has some features that cover you in the event of lost dives due to INJURY but not missed flights, trip cancellations etc.

Please review here for more information:

We just MIGHT get lucky, if they don't feel the need to evacuate, maybe it will(hopefully) turn or calm down.

Hey Kamala;

PLEASE keep us posted trip status.

I landed in Cozumel last year as Hurricane Ivan was mid Gulf (a day or two from the FL Panhandle). We actually flew around it from ATL through Houston.

First time I had been to Cozumel. Vis was 75 feet. I was blown away at the clarity. My dive buddy bitched the first two days because he was used to over 100 feet (frequent visitor).

If you get some visability reports after it passes, please pass them on.

Also, hotel condition (the room can leak but the bar and buffet can be critical). :blush:

LET'S GET ER' DONE DEEP. Ready to dive.

And, yes mom, I did buy my insurance.

Great gang! I just got mine too!

Just a clarification on the DAN or EQUIVILENT insurance! If your insurance will cover you for dangerous sports such as diving and chamber rides which can cost easily upwards of $10k if needing airlifting...then you are fine. If not...the DAN policy is cheap at the price at approx $50 a year.

FYI...there is a chamber in Cozy that is fairly close. I had a friend use the Cozumel chamber for one ride plus overnite stay for observation. Wasn't covered by DAN so had to fork out $2500 before they would release him from the hospital. If he had of had DAN...he would have signed docs and walked out.

I am also a p/t chamber technician and the rates for chamber rides for DIVING related accidents are astronomical...much more affordable for non-diving related treatments. Unfortunately the poor chamber tech never sees any of that money. :blush:

That chamber in Coz is really nice and big

Neptuner and I made a trek down there on our January dive trip, just to see the place, and to make sure we knew where it was if necessary. Thankfully, we didn't need to know where it was!

The staff are very friendly and the chamber is huge compared to the one WW runs

Is anybody taking a laptop computer to CZM?

This is my first trip. I thought it might be cool if the digital photographers could download and consolidate pics onto CD's for everybody to take home.

BTW and FYI.... WW says they had Free Internet at Casa Del Mar last year.

****Patting the foot for the final GO!!!! from Casa Del Mar and Aquatics..... **** Looks at WW *****

Yes Casa Del Mar had free internet access in the lobby when we were there last year...so hoping it is the same now.

As for being a 'go'....we have no reason NOT to believe that our trip is cancelled. However I'll let everyone know as soon as I hear anything to the contrary! kamala

Current Update:

The South end was clipped by the storm so Iberro Star was hit hard and will be closed until October. Closer into town everything seems fine. The dock is in tact and no major damage was reported. All dive operators seem to have weathered the strom ok and one or two beach side restaurants took some hits as well.

Also the resorts are booking people for travel as of this Wednesday so you can resume your travel plans if flying to Cozumel Wednesday or later.

More as it is available....
