Here's my criteria:
Must haves:
- excellent diving
- beautiful beaches
- uncrowded ... the fewer people the better (no other people would be ideal)
- no kids

Nice-to-haves:
- decent spa treatments; massage on the beach is always a good thing
- reasonably affordable
- good food and wine (no, I'm NOT drinking Merlot! ;-) )
- reasonably accessable (I live in Los Angeles); Caribbean is a yes, South Africa is a no.

Great question Jamie...sounds like it might fit in well with this discussion!

And I do have some awesome ideas....Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts/Nevis, Cayman Brac & Little Cayman...all very isolated yet gorgeous and quiet yet things to do and private and secluded and very very romantic! And yes...spa treatments!

P.S. I'm getting good at setting these up...been doing a number of them :thankyou: so let me know if I can help!

Romance is not in a place, but is a state of mind. Any place can be romantic if two people make it so. Romance requires attention to detail and attention to your partner. Some places are more fun than others and can add to your enjoyment, but remember, the true romance will be what the two of you bring with you to whatever place you choose.

Good places for romance that I've been - Provo - The Bay of Peter the Great (a tad rustic, but for those who like roughing it, it's hard to beat. It's also very difficult to get to from anywhere) - Bonaire - Roatan - Cozumel - a few that come immediately to mind.
No single raindrop believes it is responsible for the flood.

This one should make for some interesting reading Jex, good idea!

I'm with Walter, I don't think anything is a necessity other than the undivided attention of a beautiful lady... beyond that any place can be incredible. However, the warm and secluded locations offer more opportunities for intimate outdoor extracurricular activites, which is always a huge plus.

One of the most romantic times I've spent was right out your way Jex at The Hotel Del Coronado. I didn't even go diving back then, but it's still an awesome getaway. Roatan is my current favorite for tropical locations, but my list is sure to grow.... anxious to get some ideas here.

It doesn't meet most of your criteria, but to answer your last question, Paris is my all time favorite city in the world (and think how much better it would be if it weren't for the Parisians (or is that Parisennes?). If you've been there, you probably understand why.

Well, I'd have to say my bedroom.

Yeah, there's no beach there, but there's certainly no crowds, and no kids... and...

the diving is extraordinary..... :helpsmily:

You said it, sister!

Hmmm . . . chivalry, intelligence, and now wit . . .

It just might be worth paying $1 Cdn / litre for gas to see such a man in person at the upcoming PNW HH. :banghead:

(Although I'm sure there's many more elsewhere. :lmao: Just not so close! :-D)

Well, shucks ladies.... :banghead:

So - in light of some of the fun poked at those of us who are of the DIR persuasion, I offer you:

The Top 10 benefits to "diving" with a DIR buddy:

10. We're absolutely committed to our buddy during the "dive".

9. We like to be REALLY close to our buddy during the "dive". the closer the buddy, the better we like it.

8. We always keep enough reserve gas in the tank to get BOTH of us where we're going.

7. We understand that great body position makes every "dive" more pleasurable.

6. We understand that staying down a long time means making plenty of deep stops on the way back up.

5. We spend considerable time working on trim.

4. We don't ever surface prematurely.

3. If something goes wrong during the "dive", we've always got the proper backup equipment in our pocket to take care of our buddy.

2. Our reputation for the deepest and longest penetrations is well-founded

And the #1 benefit of "diving" with a DIR buddy is..... (drumroll)

1. Two words: LONG HOSE.
