Getting stationed in Kansas, does anybody know where one can get their gills wet?
Will I be destined to dry out and shrivel up for the lack of H2O? Not to mention the locations of some dive shops would be much appreciated.

Kansas.. why do people even live in Kansas??? I don't think they even have water there. but I might be wrong. :D

Good luck with your quest for water and dive locations. Hopefully some of our more knowledgeable members here can help you out.

I know of lots of great dive sites and good shops.. but they are all located near Seattle and other PNW locations. And this offers no help in your situation.

Can anyone offer anything helpful.. now that I have proven that I can't.. :o

Hi Joe -

Where in Kansas will you be heading? I've spent a fair amount of time in Kansas City/Overland Park in the last several years - but didn't do any diving while I was there.

But I can certainly give advice on restaurants, shopping, nightlife, good bars, etc...

That's ok, I will just take military hops to those really cool places on the western sea board to go diving and Texas.

Come on out the water in Seattle is always a wonderful 50 - 55 degrees..

I have heard that you are a great dive buddy. Even if you wash and wax your tanks on a regular basis. And yes turtle wax is the only way to go.. :banghead:

where in Kansass are you going to be?

there are 4 or 5 dive shops in Kansass City.

and if your in that area, Bonne Terre Mine is only a few hours away.

as are several other Missouri caves.

and about 2 hours south of KC is a quarry. yeah, i know, quarries suck. but this one has a few caverns and tunnels in it, and the max depth is around 230 ft.
OK, lets make a deal. If you stop telling me how to dive, I'll stop going down to the bus station at 2am to slap d***s out of your mouth.

I've been in Wichita for about 4 years now. Diving here...no way! The closest is in Joplin, MO., but it's deep( >200), vis about 25, and cold(62 at the second thermocline).
There are two dive shops here; one is Adventure Sports, the other is Pro Ski and Scuba, both are pretty good, but I tend to use Adventure Sports more.
PM me when you get close to moving, and I'll show you around the town(shouldn't take more than a minute) :2cool:

One good thing is that there is an airport close by to catch a flight and get that H2O fix when needed.

Will be just west of Topeka near Junction City. Looking foreward to the move out there. I am not there yet, getting my H2O fix before heading out there. Looking foreward to meeting some of you out there sometime.

Sounds like Ft. Riley. 24th ID or Big Red One? You might be plesantly suprised. KC would be on my short list of places I'd like to live if money wasn't an issue.

There's a rib joint down there, I can't remember the name off-hand, but I'm sure somebody will take you there. Trust me, after that, you'll never look at BBQ the same :teeth:

I really need to plan a trip out west :teeth:
