For those attending the Oct 8th SD/Fun Days at Athens Tx.

I hope you will keep an open mind in finding some different ways to entertain ourselfs above and below the water while we are there. one thing we might do is take advantage of the low vis and have a treasure hunt. I have talked with calvin and he is putting together some really Cool prizes to give away for any contest we can come up with. also if you have a compass but never learned how to use it you can ask some of those who do. thats really the whole thing about our SD get together is to share Info and Fun plus BBQ some food over a grill, camp in the Great Outdoors wake-up and dive in the lake. some of us will be there friday late afternon and I would imagine most of you will get there saturday and stay for the day or camp with us saturday night. we could even work on a SD theme song around the campfire? Who Knows

Be open minded, Be yourself, Be there :diver:

That is so awesome! Sounds like Calvin is really going out of his way for SD again! He has been great to our group!

Yep WW he has been a Big Supporter of SD over the years!

talked with him today about putting the treasure chest filled with marti-gra beads + ? in the lake somewhere?
and putting up plastic tape tied on UW objects in certain places giving clues to the chests location or to the other pieces of tape that may hold the secret location on them :P

return the chest with all its contents and Win the Grand Prize :usflag:

Thats one contest out of a few more planned that SD :P weekend.

For those who have never been there before here's what you might have as far as the vis goes.

Vis and Temp updates here

Since Athens was my 1st opportunity to meet some of the SD folks(4th of July) and I had a great time meeting people; I am feeling sorry for myself since I won;t be able to make this one. My soon to be new extended family has me running in about 6 directions at once right now. Oh; I got engaged about two weeks ago!, so my diving costs will skyrocket very soon as Becky is taking her O/W with my son this December.
You guys have a great time; as I know you will; and hopefully we can catch you all on the next Athens adventure.

In the immortal words of Rodney King, " Can't we just all get along?"

Was it Rodney King or that white guy that got beat up about the same time? I was just thinking of that this afternoon.....everyone seems a bit on edge on this post and others.

Let's all just drink a beer or two at out puters and celebrate differing opinions and the freedom to express them!!

:birthday:

Don't mean to stray from the topic, but to answer your question BeachBunny:

Rodney King was the man who was beat up by the police in LA while being arrested for alleged drunk driving and drugs. Reginald Denny was the man who was pulled out of his truck and beat to near death during the riots that resulted from the verdict in the Rodney King beating criminal case. After the beating of Reginald Denny, Rodney King went live on TV and made the request "Can't we all just get along." Rodney King then sued LAPD and was awarded a very large amount of money in the million dollar range if I remember right. Reginald Denny received assistance to pay his hospital bills from donations collected by law enforcement, fire fighters, etc. Rodney King has since been arrested again for drugs and alcohol and has no more of his money left. Reginald Denny, last I knew, was still on state disability and unable to work, his face disfigured for life.

Both were terrible tragedies.

Oct 8th sounds about right for me. I hope others will post as well.
dallas area folks can come over for the day or set-up a tent and stay the weekend and dont forget that there are hotels right around the corner. I think this will be a great idea to end the north american diving season and we can dive on the SD.com spaceship and dust her off alittle. dont think about it.... Just Do It SDs.

WW

I love Athens...especially the hot tub!!!

I'm not 100% for this weekend, because I've made a commitment to spend Friday/Saturday at the deer lease, but late Saturday or Sunday is a real possibility for me. I really enjoy diving Athens and I'd love to be there just to meet everyone. I'll see what I can do.
