So I see there are 3 anonymous users. What is that? Are people hiding? Why would people hide? Or are they a new membership level? Can someone explain? Im lost.

Ah hah! Here's an answer I DO know!

When you log in, depending how/where you do it, you have an option entitled Privacy. It reads: Privacy, do you want to appear on the active users list? If you click on No, your name is NOT visible on the Online List, nor at the bottom of threads, etc. The only place you may see these people are in the Last Online box on the Portal page or the Statistics page.

In most bulletin board software like this, "Anonymous" users are people looking at public threads that haven't logged in, either because they have no id or they have id but haven't actually logged in because it wasn't worth it to see check out a few threads or they might have just forgotten to log in. All kinds of non-sinister possibilities.
Most new users probably read through some public threads to see if the site is useful/fun/worthwhile before taking the time to sign up for a membership. I know I did.

And when someone is just browsing, it comes up GUEST. I agree, it is good to get an idea of a place before you join. This way you know if it is for you or now. Thats one of the features that I think is great about most boards!
