I try to drink as much water as possible but need something with taste too but rarely soda and then there are those recomendations:
64 oz of water a day
1 glass of cranberry juice
1 glass of red wine
1 cup of coffee
2 cups of green tea and the list keeps growing and this doesn't include our local flax seed pusher!
I, Latitude Adjustment (insert log in name), do hereby swear, (politely), that I shall not hold SingleDivers, (SD), nor any SD poster, (real or imagined), liable, nor shall I seek legal restitution, (real or imagined), for any perceived, (real or imagined), offenses I may incur, (or Incurrrrrrrrrr on talk like a pirate day), that may or may not be posted on this or any SCUBA related board, (real or imagined), by anyone, (real or imagined), anywhere, (real or imagined). Cool Water
Words & Music By:
Bob Nolan

All day I faced the barren waste
Without the taste of water
Cool water
Old Dan and I with throats burned dry
And souls that cry for water
Cool, clear water

Keep a-movin', Dan, don't you listen to him, Dan
He's a devil not a man
and he spreads the burning sand
With water

Dan can you see that big green tree
Where the water's runnin' free
And it's waiting there for me and you

The nights are cool and I'm a fool
Each star's a pool of water
Cool water
But with the dawn I'll wake and yawn
And carry on
To water
Cool, clear water

Keep a-movin', Dan, don't you listen to him, Dan
He's a devil not a man
And he spreads the burning sand
With water

Dan can you see that big green tree
Where the water's runnin' free
And it's waiting there for me and you

The shadows sway and seem to say
Tonight we pray for water
Cool water
And way up there He'll hear our prayer
And show us where
There's water
Cool, clear water

Keep a-movin', Dan, don't you listen to him, Dan
He's the devil not a man
and he spreads the burning sand
With water

Dan can you see that big green tree
Where the water's runnin' free
And it's waiting there for me and you

Dan's feet are sore
He's yearning for
Just one thing more than water
Like me, I guess he'd like to rest
Where there's no quest
For water
Cool, clear water

I would have to say water, yes you must be hydrated, prevent cramping and more serious issues, I know there is a thing about replacing electrolytes (loss of sodium and others) through activity and sweating (technical term) but I find that if I am diving, suger type drinks increase phlegm quite a bit and for me is not good for diving with dry air! so water and peanut butter crackers suit me just fine.

Which end is up?

Water is the go for staight out hydration.

However the use of water as ice in alcoholic should be carefully monitored as it causes headaches. :cool1:

I always thought I was drinking enough water but the sun in the tropics just sucks it out of you.
On my second day of diving I wasn't feeling well but attributed that to my sunburnt head, on the ride out I broke into a cold sweat and got light headed so I layed down on the bench. The DM asked me to sit up for the briefing and I told him I wouldn't be diving, at that point two other divers, an ER MD and an EMT got involved. I was loaded onto a speedboat and rushed back to Utila Lodge where the chamber attentant (chamber maid?) and the nurse from the clinic where waiting. After a quick check of my vitals and a review of my dive profiles I was taken to the island clinic. Forget the DAN card it's cash only!
After a few IV's and two litres of the local Pedialyte my color and blood presure had returned, I was reading on the clinic porch/waiting room with my IV hanging from the rafters when they decided to send me home, as they pulled the IV I went down again.
It was now too late for the ferry to the hospital and a night crossing by speedboat was out of the question due to the sea state so a local pilot was called. Forget the DAN card it's cash only again! No time for DAN assist because Utila's airstripe isn't lighted.
I was thrown into the back of a pickup and with local TV and newspaper chasing on scooters driven to the airport. So if you are ever in Utila and wearing your Black SingleDivers T-shirt locals may ask how you are feeling or assume you are one of the divers who had dibbs on my stuff if I didn't come back.
In LeCieba EMT's were waiting at the airport to take me and the island doc to a very nice hospital that even had a few English speaking help. Forget the DAN card it's cash or VISA only! After they pinged the card for 5000 Lempera I was admited. After a night of test it was dedermined I was volumme depleted and I guess for making such a nice donation to the hospital the doctor (this would never happen in the US!) drove me and the island doc to the ferry.
People 10840 Lemperas will buy you a lot of water and Gatorade plus you'll get more diving in, drink up!
