You are in serious jeopardy of being denied access to board the boat. Your Nekton documents must be sent to Nekton today. The forms are required no later than 7 days prior to departure.

Contact me if you need assistance.

This being my first serious live-abord trip are there any recommendations beyond what is posted on Nektons site?

On clothing Nektons site says that most people end up staying in swim suits and t-shirts for the week. I was planning on bringing a chammyz pull over and long pants to go over my trunks and rash guard is there anything else i should bring to be comfortable on the boat?

I have a couple of questions too. Is there internet access available on the boat? I've been told to bring a power strip as there are few outlets to charge strobes and camera batteries. Any truth to this?

Thanks. Looking forward to next week.

If photographers are willing to share photos at the end of the trip, then it would be a good idea to bring your own flash drive (at least 4GB). It's so much easier to exchange photos on the boat than waiting until after the trip. My photos (above or below the water) aren't that great, but I'll gladly share copies.

It's also good to bring any USB adapters that you might need for your camera's memory card. Some of the built-in card readers on laptops are fickle, so having a back-up connection is wise.

Once the details about the shuttle service for Saturday (12/12) are posted, it will be one more confirmation that the trip is really going to happen. :-D

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Without knowing what your specific requirements are for being comfortable, I think Nekton's site has it pretty much covered. Everything is very casual and swim suits and t-shirts are the norm for most people including at meals. I don't recall any significant A/C problems on my previous Nekton trips causing it to be either too hot or too cold on the boat. Others have recommended not to wear open-toe shoes around the boat as there are many things you could accidently kick and stub your toes on but I've never found this to be a problem. In fact, many of the crew members walk around barefoot which I found to be perfectly fine unless your on the sundeck...with the sun beating down on it all day it can get a bit hot.

Unless things have changed from my last Nekton trip in June, there is no internet access...we are going off the grid!!! I also recall there being plenty of power outlets both in the dining area and main salon as well as a couple in each cabin.

Hey gang...driving home from Florida...ok well I'm riding and DiveGeek is driving! :-D

Answers:

1. NO INTERNET
2. If you have extensive camera set ups...(Dave you have both) then bring your own power cord. If you have a simple set up then as Matt says the plug situation should be fine.
3. Van schedule will be posted as soon I call the boat to be sure I understand it.
4. Bring warm clothes to wear during surface intervals to warm up between dives. You will be in your swimsuit most of the day if you make most of the dives. You only dress for dinner which will not be what you wore during the day to keep warm. Shoes are optional and I rarely wear any after getting on the boat.

VAN/TRANSFER UPDATE:

Ok gang...I have the van shuttle schedule. (The last participants forwarded their flight details to them so they could determine final transfer options.) We do not have enough people to do two vans so therefore there will be only one van which will depart SJU at 5:45pm from the Post Office outside the airport.

Exit airport baggage and turn to the right. Walk a block or two and you will see the airport post office. This is where you will be picked up by the van.

For those arriving early you can either gamble in the casino attached to the airport or you can rent a day room and hang out until departure time. (Please let us know what you plan to do so that those who want to share a day room can or hang in the airport/casino.)

Due to the later departure, the usual stop for booze on the way to the boat may be omitted so plan to get something at Duty Free if you wish to drink during the week. You will need to bring any adult beverages you would like as well as any soda that you want. The boat serves juice, water, coffee and tea.

And finally the baot will serve us dinner when we arrive. Kamala

Hello Kamala,

Enclosed is your shuttle pick up schedule for this coming Saturday! Note the time is 5:45pm.

You and your divers will be fed when they get to the boat Saturday evening!

Have a great trip!

Thanks,

Nekton Diving

WW - If you want i can make a sports drinks, sodas, adult beverage run if need be since i will be on the island earlier and i know where I can get various items on the west coast. the duty free at SJU has a pretty good selection of liquor (especially rum), but if your a wine drinker its a bit limited. does the boat have gatorade or is that something i would need to get?

Rumblebee thats what i figured and will pack the chammyz boat gear and that should take care of everything.

Dave = im bringing my own power strip and 2 3way plugs so i have enough to power everything on my camera.

also whats the earliest we can meet the boat at the dock?

Dan you are such a sweetie! I would love some red wine. I think i told you what kind from Sam's club. Let me know if you need me to advise again.

If we do duty free or scubatooth alcohol then we can save time getting to the boat.

I do not know the earliest you can arrive. I will know by tomorrow. Kamala

Could someone tell me where exactly the dock is in Mayaguez? I'll driving in from Aquadilla. Is there a landmark or directions?
