I checked on flying from Cancun to Cozumel. Looks like Maya Air is no longer flying this route. From what I can tell the only way to get from Cancun to Cozumel now is to take the bus/taxi from the airport to Playa then take the ferry over. So I'm going to now look at flights into Cozumel and out of Cancun.

you might look at this instead:

https://www.mayair.com.mx/

though they have some pretty strict weight limits:

What's the policy on luggage weight allowance?

25 kg per person / 55 lbs

How much for every extra kilo?

$2.00 usd for every extra kilo.

We have had many discussions about this on another board and no one has yet to have the weight restrictions enforced.

Hey Kim,

Thanks for the link! When I searched for Maya Air I got a totally different link. Must be two of them.

Direct flights into Cancun from Denver right now are outrageous on Frontier so I'm still looking at a connection and if I have to do that I'll fly into Cozumel.

But this is great in case Frontier announces a sale.

While I myself have already made plane reservation for extra day, I know some of you are waiting for good deals, always a fun gamble. Meanwhile, while several, including myself have referenced Chichen Itza, I am curious whether Tulum, which I have never seen, is easier or even both could be done. I will go with group decision, but I have personally been to Chichen Itza back in 2000 when I was visiting Merida for several days, and I have not been to Tulum. However, I can also say that Chichen Itza is great and would indeed be especially interesting to compare to the pyramids which we will be visiting three weeks earlier in Egypt. The pyramids in Chichen Itza are nowhere near as tall as those in Egypt, nor even those in Teotijuacan, but Chichen Itza has a lot of variety including stadia that clearly would have been great for Olympic type games. But then I no longer have super urge to run to top as I did at Teotijuacan in 2000 when I made it in 4 1/2 minutes while most walked up the irregular and narrow stairs in 30 minutes. :)

Nitrox vs Large Tank Update:

Ok gang in the past we have not been able to get nitrox in large tanks i.e. 100cf tanks. I will check to see if that has changed or not. Generally you have to choose between large tanks or nitrox. Let me check....

I know it's early in the planning stages, but is anyone thinking about heading to before Saturday? I'm considering going a couple of days earlier so I can get in a few more dives.

I always go a few days early to get things set up when we have a large group. So I will be there the 17th but not for diving :birthday:

However I know that fairfield59 wants the week long pricing I just got so he will be there possibly early and/or later than the group.

We were REALLY lucky to have our trip fall into a very special pricing structure for Cozy while we are there. I think they will extend that pricing both before and after our trip.

And by the way...NOW is the perfect time to start this discussion...BEFORE most people buy tickets.

HINT: Get your tickets as fast as you can and grab a deal when you see it! Its going to be one of those years for airline tickets again.... :)

I haven't looked at airline tickets yet, but I'm hoping to try for a few extra days since summer is one of my best times for diving (the teacher schedule). I'm thinking about June 15th...
