I just e-mail my documents - I think I get it in before the document fee kicks in. I still need to arrange air fare and trip insurance. I've never bought trip insurance so I'm open to suggestions on how it works, etc

Gwyn check the end of the trip listing and you'll find a link to Dive Assure and DAN. Pls reference us using the code if DAN or the drop down under global partners if Dive Assure. Dive Assure is pretty hassle free but a few bucks more. It allows you to buy one policy for one trip or insure an amount say $3000 for the year for all your trips. If you have to make a claim you can buy more for the rest of the year...just not for that claim. Its pretty brilliant as you never have to worry about buying it so will have it when you need it. At the end of the year if you never used it well then it served its purpose...peace of mind for when you least expect 'Murphy' to take over.

You can use any policy you find...just read the 'fine' print to be sure it covers for the reasons you want. Some have add-on's for medical conditions, some have add-on's for 'cancel for any reason' i.e. work but that is not standard.

So if I buy multi trip insurance with Dive Assure - the benfits are for each trip? - so if I am delayed on more than one trip, they would pay (up to whatever amount) for both trips, correct?

and the amount I pay is based on how much cancellation coverage I want? from $1,000 to $10,000. and caneccaltion coverage being how much they will be pay if I have to cancel/reschedule?

I do not know all the answers to your questions...I *think* that the coverage is annual meaning that if you get $3000 of insurance and use $1000 of it on one trip you still have $2k for another trip. BUT I"M NOT CERTAIN. Please call them if you can or you should be able to email them as well.

I think the calculations work that if you do 2 trips a year and/or at one really big one then the annual is the better deal. Also they do not nit pick when it comes to filing claims. Insurance companies are in the BUSINESS of not paying claims but these guys are pretty hassle free.

IMPORTANT TRIP INSURANCE UPDATE:

Hey gang...I'm glad Gwyn is asking about trip insurance. Keep in mind two things regarding this trip....

1. WEATHER WEATHER BAD WEATHER.... its the time of year for crappy weather so put some buffer in your travel plans if you can CONSIDER TRIP INSURANCE!!!

2. LIVEABOARD...when the boat leaves if you show up 1 day later...you've still missed the boat!


SO PLEASE STRONGLY CONSIDER TRIP INSURANCE!!!


p.s. if you do have to file a claim because you got there late and the boat was gone...they will do 100% recovery of the trip amount UP TO THE AMOUNT YOU INSURED!!!

One more question and then I promise I'll call them. Is there a point at which I must purchase trip insurance (XX weeks/months before I depart). I have limited phone access - I could e-mail of course - but it would be easier if I could wait until I return in June.

You can wait til June...and yes it will be easier to do it over the phone to iron out your questions. THE ONLY RISK IS THAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS BETWEEN NOW AND THEN...you are NOT covered. I'll work with you if they need info on when you signed up etc. It will be fine until June! -ww
