BITE ME

Living in the deep, dark ocean, this creature has teeth bigger than it's head. When it shuts its mouth, its teeth fit into sockets so this fish doesn't pierce its own brain!

Oooh...is that the mean fishy that almost gets Marlin and Dory in 'Finding Nemo'?

(in my best Bug's Bunny voice) ehhh, could be . . .

Would that be a viperfish?

Viperfish works for me (another option would have been fangtooth)

Works for me, too, Hawk. Thanks. The funny thing about the viperfish is that while it looks all kinds of fierce and nasty, in real life it's only several inches long and is very fragile. That's because it lives in the deep sea, and doesn't get enough calcium in its diet to support a strong skeleton.

Creature Feature 43

This critter is frequently mistaken for an anemone, but it's not, although it's a distant relative, in that it has stinging cells. It has algae living symbiotically in it, which provide it with oxygen, so it can live in waters that would normally be too oxygen-poor to support it otherwise.

They're round, appear to be irridescent, and have lacy ruffles around its edges. They reach 12-14 inches in diameter and are found in the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, and other tropical waters. They are frequently found in mangroves.

Gulp... it's my turn

Creature Feature 44

It's a colonial cnidarian of purplish color found on sand and mud bottoms with its bulb stuck into the bottom for anchorage. It is an example, like the related gorgonians, of a socialist species... when one zoid feeds, all share in the food. Should a predator get too close, it may be "blinded" by the light!

It sounds like a sea fan, but that may be instead the related gorgonian you are referencing?

Hey, I didn't realize I had "stumped the stars" with this one. I wondered why the thread had disappeared. Thanks for reviving it because it was a lot of fun.

Additional clue: it has a heart-shaped base with white polyps extending upward from that. A little late for Valentine's Day.

Purple-tipped anemone? After all, they're cnidarians, too.

Keep trying. I will add that they aren't anemones or gorgonians, and that they are found from SoCal south.

CREATURE FEATURE 7

Name this sea creature (aka who's up for a milkshake!!??):

Using its radula, this sea creature drills into its prey and injects digestive enzymes to soften it all up. When ready, this sea creature simply sucks out the "innerds milkshake" leaving it's prey's empty outside behind...(suddenly protein shakes don't sound so appealing...Posted Image)

Sounds alot like an ex-girlfriend!!!!

Which end is up?
