Looks like only 8 people are interested....hmmm....

Based on above info, would I be wrong to suggest North Jersey wins out for a location. Those of you that live up that way...what are the options???? I rarely venture north of Avon...so I am of absolutely no use to you at this point.

It would be nice to have one soon.....

Hopefully, we'll get some momentum out of the Newport HH. Given that much of our Northeastern membership came out of Beneath the Sea, we should be able to muster up some interest in the NJ area.

Perhaps we can arrange for a mass-mailing to the folks from the Greater New York area to give this HH a good plug.

Thanks for starting the NJ HH thread. I'm glad this many people expressed interest already!

As far as options in and around the No. NJ area, I know of plenty of venues for the HH but not too many for a local dive, if people want to include one. To tell the truth, I have not done any local diving. But I can find out some info from my LDS on sites, rentals, etc. I believe they dive wrecks in the LI Sound.

I would suggest having the HH outdoors near water (where we divers like to be, right?). Here's a suggestion: Sand Bar. It's right on the channel in the Liberty Landing Marina with plenty of parking. It's nearby the NJ Turnpike, and it's also a NY Waterway Ferry stop for NYers. You can eat, sightsee, dance, lay out on chaise chairs (I think I saw some) and so long as the HH is early enough, we can avoid the meat market slaughter. There are other venues nearby that we could hop around to.

I guess you all can discuss further at NE HH and post an update. Looking forward to it!

If you want to include diving, then the only logical choice is Dutch Springs. Anything else rules out too many warm water divers, but a trip to Dutch Springs would allow the warm water divers to get a taste of local diving if they are inclined to give it a try.

I've heard of Dutch Springs in PA; my LDS goes there for checkout dives for OW certs. I was told you'd need a 7MM wetsuit and they do rent tanks but don't operate a real dive outfit. I don't think that there are any HH areas onsite; we'd need to BYO as it is a campground/aqua park. Here's a link to their site:

I propose that a NYC/No. NJ HH be planned for June 3rd, 10th, or 17th. Possible outdoor venues include: Sand Bar and the Lighthouse Grill (It's actually on a barge; I would reserve the top deck for our HH.).

If you have any interest in and availability for any of these dates, let's do an informal vote and get feelers for the 1st HH & perhaps the 2nd HH. I'm sure we can get a carpool going from the south and north.

Hey All!

Seems like it will be either June 10th or 17th for our first SD No. NJ/NY based on preliminary responses.

Oops, I messed up! It's Lightship Grill, not Lighthouse Grill. Sorry bout that! The link was in my first post.

Bad news: Lightship Grill is closed until further notice. I found out this morning when I was sailing instead of going to the SCUBA InTenCity stop in Syosset. So we are going to have to consider another venue.

Good news: I've placed the link for Sand Bar here. Also, another suggestion for outdoor seating on the Hudson is Arthurs Landing, also accessible via major highways and NYC ferry and has plenty of parking.

I think we should plan the HH for 4PM for those driving back to the north and south or ferrying over from NYC. Those with no life can hang out with me until then and after then.
