Amber, I never saw that question. The Sperm Whale is the deepest diving whale, although two pinnipeds dive deeper. What are they?

You are correct it was Carter.

Mishelle, I'm guessing FDR, but it is just a guess.

the sperm whales deepest dive recorded was at 6560 ft. in 1991. It is believed to be able to dive to more than 10,000 ft. but it has not been proven.

The elephant seal is the deepest diving pinniped I thought. But it can only dive to about 5000 ft.

I don't know any others off hand that can dive deeper than that.

It looks like our sources differ.

The sperm whale is the deepest diver of the great whales and can descend to depths of over 3,300 feet (1000 m) and stay submerged for over an hour. Average dives are 20-50 minutes long to a depth of 980-1,970 feet (300-600 m).

I was wrong, I thought the Weddell Seal dived deeper than the Sperm Whale. Individuals have been known to dive up to 600m in depth and a 73 minute dive was once recorded.

Northern elephant seals, like their relations the Southern elephant seals, are renowned for their ability to remain submerged for very long periods of time and to dive to great depths while feeding, males to 350-800m on average and females to 300-600m. Their dives of long duration, averaging 21 minutes for males and 17 minutes for females, are interrupted by only brief intervals, mostly less than 3 minutes, at the surface. The deepest dives are beyond 1,500m deep and last for 1.5-2 hours. The seals repeat these dives almost continuously for 2-8 months and spend 80-95% of their time at sea submerged.

It's only the Elephant Seal that dives deeper than the Sperm Whale.
No single raindrop believes it is responsible for the flood.

Walter- I think you just misread the question. I asked for deepest recorded dive..not who dives deepest. Although the answer would be the same, the depth varies between the two ansers greatly.
Nice input on the elephant seal. So it looks like we were both right..can't beat that!

I am pretty sure it was FDR that was the first president to fly in an airplane while in office. Now, the senior George Bush may have been the first president to actually fly an airplane (or in one).

I dont know how was the first to fly in a plane but I would guess Bush I was the first and last to jump out of one. I've been to remains of the boat he sank in Palau.

How about
What was the first ship sunk as a result of the US entering WW I (Yes its diveable) Part of it was also the first shot fired by the US after entering WW I
