Taxes. You have reminded me that I hope to beat last year's filing date of Oct 14.

My honorary nephew, a 10 year old boy whose only Aunt is not involved with him, and whom I have assured that indeed there was room in the 10 year old nephew slot in my life (I have 7 nieces and nephews, the only gap being age 10), greeted me last night with a very nice homemade birthday card that he had spent a lot of time on.

Melt.

Jealous! I have to file late every year, but hopefully, that will be June instead of October this year. Going to be an ugly tax year as my company was bought last year, forcing the sale of stock shares all at once. So I'm just hoping that I won't be WRITING a big check.

What a sweet story.

Given your profile birthday is on February 17 (same as my father!), it is clear he spent a LOT of time on the card. :teeth: (If the profile birthdate is a typo, I can fix that.)

Going to miss him when he moves to Brussels this summer. His Mom and I are already planning a reunion trip to Croatia.

The day is correct. I was away diving last week and didn't see him. Now what I really want to know is can you fix the YEAR. I would like to go back to 2000. Life got mighty complicated after that.

I hardly ever get a refund- definitely not one of any significance whatsoever. I like it that way. Why should I give the government an interest-free loan? I try to work it so I don't have a penalty for underpayment of taxes so I usually end up writing a check for less than 1000 and I do that via paper check on the last possible day to do so. Depening on taxable/deductible events I might have to make mid course adjustments to withholding or estimated taxes to get the amount I owe to fall into the right target range.

As an accountant I agree with your premise. Unfortunately things can go pear-shaped in the 4th quarter, resulting in overpayment. You bet I want to get it back from them as fast as I can get it!

Agree. That's definitely a possibility but it hasn't happened to me personally. If it did I would file as soon as I could.
