Absolutely the best way to go. When I started to dive, I looked at it also as another way to get out and meet people. (I'm 3 years divorced btw) Thanks Kamala for starting this up! Whether you hook up or not, this is a much more fun and intersting way to meet people. I met more "normal" people in three days than I have in three years. And the major, similar interest is all ready in place. The SO must be a diver.

Michael, you've outdone yourself again with a brilliant analogy. The deer/intersate visual says it all.

I had a date NOT from hell last night, so it isn't relative to this thread... but with all the talk of Internet dating (I met her on Match.com) and whether or not we all should date non-divers, I thought I'd mention it. The date went well, she was nice, and we have lots of things in common (diving being a big one), so we'll see if this goes anywhere....

That is some amazing stuff!! I have to say I respect your courage and candor in posting your stories. And I think your situations were much more of a pressure cooker -- you handed yourself quite well!!

I can think of other guys who would have done far worse.

It occurred to me that if they are the type of men who always remember to bring you the little grated cheese and red pepper packets, you might hve true potential there.

I have to agree. I don't know how I would react meeting a nice good looking guy and towards the end of the date finding out he was a she...

YIKES! After reading some of the stories in this thread I'm embarassed to have posted mine. Seems it was a great date, I just didn't realize it at the time. OR maybe I did a fairly good job of screening.

Thats because in general men look at the photo (seldom read or only scan the profile), and women actually read the profile!

Women "in general" want to talk a bit and get to know the person either via email or maybe on the phone, ask questions, get an understanding of who this person is. This is a great screening process IMHO, talk to the person for a bit.

Men "in general" want to meet fast and move on. My last few contacts from the site I am on was simply an email that read "email is impersonal, call me my number is 000-555-1212" There was not a speck of information on their profile either to even give me a hint to any interests they might have. NEXT!!!!!!

I think those are very accurate generalizations, i.e., scanning pictures versus reading. Personally, my own profile is completely filled in, and I do read the profiles I get sent carefully.
However, no matter what her profile says, if there is not a picture posted, I usually do not respond.
