Well, I learned to SCUBA dive in high school, then joined the Navy. The Navy thought since I dive, I'd work with survival equipment real well, so they sent me to school to learn to pack parachutes, life rafts and life perservers, oxygen systems and related equipement. Got to work with the Navy's Test Parachute group, who also did some work with NASA and JPL. Got out after 8 years, and went to work for the same group as a civilian. Now I do quality assurance work testing parachute textiles and hardware, making sure when the Navy buys emergancy equipment for our pilots and aircrew, they're getting the best stuff we can get. Still get to work with NASA on the space shuttle survival equipment, and JPL, testing some of the stuff that's gone to Mars, Jupiture and astroids and comets. It's actully fairly dull most of the time, but kind of neat to think my finger prints are in space, and my name is on stuff sitting on Mars.
JPL= Jet Porpulsion Lab. They actually do robots and hardware that go to space.
You may not be able to smell the roses underwater, but you can sea horses.
