Hey why does your SO not dive? Not interested? The water is too cold where you live? You are a tech diver and all that stuff overwhelms him/her?

Tell us why your SO doesn't dive...who knows...they might just surprise you and try the sport afterall! That is if you let them and encourage them! :helpsmily:

My SO claims to be afraid of sharks. He openly tells me that logic does not work for him when I (or anyone) else try to rationalize the true risk.
To his credit he did try an intro dive in Cozumel and liked it, unfortunately now I think he is changing his mind about getting certified.
No worries, that just means I have twice the cash to go on twice as many trips if I am the only diver in the family!!

We don't need no stinkin' C-cards (well, at least I didn't before 1969).

Being underwater is what gets her. Close call as a kid and just can't get by it. I finally got her to snorkle at Turks & Cacios which she LOVED! One step at a time I guess.

I've had a number of those uh 'bad experiences under water that your wife is afraid of'...

namely 3 near drownings including a full recessutation.

Plus I'm claustrophobic and I was blind when I learned to dive (thanks to RK pre-lasik I now have 20/20 vision!)

So don't give up...it took me awhile to finally learn to dive  i.e. I flunked each pool session 2/3 times each and my mask clearing 4 times and my open water weekend twice before I FINALLY passed. But hey...if you choose to stick with it...like I did...then anything is possible....including almost 900 dives later I'm now a DiveMaster and competent diver...so yes...anything is possible!

My wife is a fairly decent swimmer, and doesn't mind snorkeling a little. She says she has absolutely zero interest in diving, or even trying to skin dive. We've gone on several trips, including a sail/dive on a nice catamaran, where I thought she might be ready to at least ask to try, given all the talent on the boat (everyone else was a diver, including an OWSI).

She won't admit it to me, but I think she is a little claustrophobic, so why push her into an environment where she would be uncomfortable?

Mi dos pesos.
No aquarium, no tank in a marine land, however spacious it may be, can begin to duplicate the conditions of the sea. And no dolphin who inhabits one of those aquariums or one of those marine lands can be considered normal.

I'm very claustraphobic....trick is to not let the water come up over you but rather put your head into it first...get comfortable and then start to descend.

In fact there are a number of techniques you can use to over come claustrophobia. Sometimes it just helps to know that others have the same worries and issues and its fairly common.

I too am very claustraphobic - you'll rarely see me do a swim through for that very reason - I swim over the top and follow the bubbles!! That seems to work for me.............well, there was that one time in Coz where I joined up with another group of bubbles.............at least they were SD.com bubbles!!!

Um, are you talking about diving or sex?
