  • Diving & Itinerary

    DIVING

    • We’ll be diving with DIVE DOMINICA!
    • We dive at sites in and around the Soufriere Scotts Head Marine Reserve every morning and we also have regular night diving trips.
    • Dominica’s Soufriere Scotts Head Marine Reserve is located in the south west of the island, just a short boat trip from Dive Dominica.
    • Dives are guided by our PADI divemasters or instructors who all have intimate knowledge of the sites and the creatures that live there.
    • DIVE DOMINICA is the only dive operator on Dominica offering enriched air (Nitrox) diving, and if you wish to extend your dive skills you can choose from a range of refresher, intermediate and advanced courses.
    • Today, Dominica’s lush forest and soaring mountains are a perfect backdrop to the spectacular dive sives that sit hidden just offshore. The dramatic topography continues underwater and gives Dominica some of the Caribbean’s most spectacular diving. As you gently slide beneath the sea, the lush gree mountains are replaced by underwater pinnacles that rise from the depths, covered in brilliantly colour corals and cloaked with tropical reef fish.
    • Divers who have dared to stray from the traditional, heavily advertised Caribbean dive destinations have been treated to an unbelievable dive holiday.
    • Un-crowded dive boats pick and choose from an inexhaustible selection of pristine dive sites.
    • Once underwater here, you seldom see other divers and you would be hard pressed to find evidence of reef damage caused by divers.
    • Every dive site is a macro-photographer’s fantasy with a rich assortment of colourful sponges, an abundance of crinoids, camouflaged frogfish, arrowcrabs, anemones with cleaner shrimp of every kind hiding inside them, walls covered in black coral, and gorgonians with the occasional seahorse attached.
    • Wide-angle photographers will delight in our swim-troughs full of soldier fish and grunts that part like a curtain with the passage of each diver. Caves full of lobster, dramatic arches of coral-covered granite, schools of sennet, large Southern stingrays, big barracuda, schools of baitfish being pursued by various jacks, and huge barrel sponges make impressive images.
    • All of these dive sites are a stone’s throw from the shore and lie with the Scott’s Head/Soufriere Marine Reserve, which encompasses just under 3 miles of coastline.

Dive Dominica operates at sites in and around the reserve and our professional dive staff know the environment and its inhabitants intimately. Whatever your experience and ability, scuba diving with Dive Dominica is professionally organised, friendly, and geared to maximise your safety and fun.

Shore Diving: The shore diving opportunities are endless and some of the best critters* are in front of the hotel!  *the island suffered a huge landslide a few years back which wiped out the shallow shore diving reef but the critters survived so they are all out in the open!

Night Diving: One guided shore night dive is included in the package. We can also organize and  STRONGLY SUGGEST a boat night dive for $66 per person (paid in advance) with a minimum of 6 divers.

Conditions: Max Depth is 20-130’ but most dives are very easy and shallow.

Lionfish: Dominica does have lionfish but unlike other venues, they hunt them aggressively and allow divers to hunt them as well. Contact for more info.  We have arranged for one of the guides to hunt these invasive fish and even bring lionfish snacks on the boat for us the next day! We even try to have lionfish as part of one of our group dinners!  YUM!!! YUM!!!

  • Travel Details

Remember if it were easy to get there...it would look like the rest of the Caribbean!

Dominica has two airports: Melville Hall (code: DOM) is the larger of the two and approximately 60 minute drive from Roseau. Canefield (code: DCF) is smaller but only 15 minutes from Roseau.
The two primary gateways to Dominica are San Juan via AA and Seaborne and St Marteen via a number of carriers and WinAir.  There are many connections options to Dominica. Most are listed below:

    1. WinAir (the most reliable and the best carrier option from SXM to DOM). This is the carrier we use for our charter air contract via Single Divers.com
    2. LIAT and Hummingbird Air also offer connections to DOM from SXM.
    3. Caribbean Regional hubs include: Antigua, San Juan, St. Lucia, St. Marteen (SXM), Tortola and Barbados.
    4. SD CHARTER - SD has once again arranged a charter flight from SXM to DOM and back for $410(full price) $397(cash discounted price) with taxes USD round trip.

NOTE to book a seat using our contract air you MUST BOOK A ROUND TRIP FLIGHT AND PAY IN FULL WHEN YOU BOOK. The various flight options are included in our shopping cart add-on's including a week 1 air option, a week 2 air option and a both weeks air option.

    Charter Schedule

You will need AT LEAST 2 hrs in SXM to do the transfer to DOM when arriving and to your US arriving airport when departing. The WinAir flight will depart at 4:15 pm so you need to be in SXM by 2pm at the latest and preferably as much earlier as you can.  We will leave DOM at 9:45 arriving in DOM at 10:45 so plan on int'l flights from SXM from 1pm or later.

    Week #1:

    WM 7104 V SA27MAY SXM-DOM HK24 1615   1715

    WM 7102 V SA03JUN DOM-SXM HK24 0945   1045

    Week #2:

    WM 7104 V SA03JUN SXM-DOM HK24 1615   1715

    WM 7102 V SA10JUN DOM-SXM HK24 0945   1045

    NOTES:

Please give yourself AT LEAST 2 hrs and no less than 1hr50min to arrive/depart in San Marteen, as you’ll need to clear customs, collect your bags, go to the ticket counter, pay your departure tax of $10-35, clear customs again, go thru TSA and then reach the boarding gate.

Drive time from DOM airport to Castle Comfort is approximately 1 hour.

LIAT is often a cheaper option but it is also the least timely of all air options into DOM. Please allow plenty of buffer i.e. arriving a day early when flights are less full and/or a missed or delayed connection will not as adversely impact your trip. Many members have success with LIAT if they get trip insurance AND they do not travel on the weekends i.e Saturday. (Going home does not matter as much if you are delayed or your bags do not arrive)

Many divers choose to book their own air so they can use frequent flyer miles, their preferred carrier or because they have more time to search out deals. If you wish for SingleDivers.com to research and/or book your airfare ticket for you we are happy to do so for a $30 administrative fee. (This fee does not apply to booking the charter air for you).

    BAGGAGE

SD Charter from SXM – as charter arrangements are currently being finalized, please check back here for specific restrictions once advised from the airline. As with all small aircraft, baggage is limited. Please plan and pack accordingly.

WinAir (OUR CONTRACT CARRIER) also allows 1 piece of free baggage – less than 50lbs/23k. WinAir has a very TIGHT carryon allowance.
    http://www.fly-winai...us/baggage.html

LIAT offers 1 piece of free baggage – less than 50lbs/23k and 1 allowable carryon – less than 15lbs/7k. For baggage specifics please check the web link below.
    http://www.liatairli....html?page_id=3

    TRANSFERS

Transfers are included from the Dominica Airport to the hotel and back again. The ride from the airport to the island is approx 1 hour. Int'l flights require you be at the airport 2 hrs in advance.

    EXIT TAX

Do keep approx $35 EC or $26US for your exit tax out of the country. PLEASE USE ONLY CLEAN, CRISP, UNMARKED BILLS

    VISA/PASSPORT INFORMATION

Dominica is a country that is easy to fly in and out of for Americans and most Europeans. You only need a passport for legal entry and exit WITH 6 months left on it after your return date along with adequate pages to allow it to be stamped.

  • Experience Required & Training/Workshops

Why Dominica is NOT for new divers....(in my opinion)

    1. If you dive the top rated destination in the Caribbean first then you have nothing to look forward too when you dive other places.
    2. If you are a new diver then you are typically a new traveler as well. Traveling to Dominica is not always easy but is easily offset by the AMAZING diving. The saying..."If it were easy to get here it would look like the rest of the caribbean" is very very true. However without being a bit travel savvy and understanding that bags may not arrive for a day or two since the planes are sooooooooo small, you will end up with people upset. That is why I target my experienced divers...they have enough diving and travel savvy and experience to recognize how pristine this diving is and THAT offsets just about every issue encountered trying to get there.
    3. If you are new diver the boat can not go to the most amazing sites that are in the Atlantic...the sponges are so big a full grown man can lie inside of them, There are big animals and huge schools of fish...but if there are new divers the boat will not go to these sites in case of current.
    4. While the diving is super easy along the leeward side of the island and those sites are still pristine compared to other islands, they are limited so if you have new divers you have to start repeating sites since the number of sites that are perfect for new divers is limited in number.

    Training & Workshops

There are no SingleDivers.com training activities nor workshops currently planned for this trip.  We are happy to check with the resort about doing training during your trip and what they would charge. Often they will give us a better price so feel free to ask us to assist.  If you would like us to help arrange additional training for you, simple click in the SUPPORT tab in the main menu and then click on SUBMIT HELP TICKET and click on TRIP ADMINISTRATION and request assistance.

We will also check to see if any of our trip participants are instructors who would like to teach on the trip and let you know.  We are glad you are interested in continuing your dive education and we hope we can help you continue your goal of ongoing training.

  • Insurance, Documentation, and T&C's

    INSURANCE

DIVE Insurance is required! DIVE insurance is VERY inexpensive. Even if you have insurance that you think covers DIVING ACCIDENTS and air lifts…it is CHEAP (approx $100) to get a supplemental policy to ensure you are covered for an entire year of diving.

    We recommend:

Dive Assure: for either a 'one time' policy OR an annual policy for BOTH Dive & Trip Insurance providing PRIMARY COVERAGE with excellent rates and coverage! Please reference SingleDivers.com via the drop-down menu under GLOBAL PARTNERS. (If you can not find the drop down, do not reference anyone and email info@singledivers.com your policy info and we will do it for you via our Dive Assure company representative.)

Diver's Alert Network: Please use our reference number when ordering: ID1603080   (This only works if you are a new first time DAN member.)

Trip Insurance is STRONGLY SUGGESTED and/or required (depending on the trip)!  TRIP insurance is VERY inexpensive. Even if you have insurance that you think covers your trip…it is CHEAP (approx $100-$200) to get a supplemental policy to ensure you are covered for your investment in your dive trip. If you opt to not get trip insurance you are responsible for all losses related to your trip including not going for any reason.

    We recommend:

Dive Assure: for either a 'one time' policy OR an annual policy for BOTH Dive & Trip Insurance with excellent rates and coverage!

    DOCUMENTATION

All SingleDivers.com trips require necessary documentation to facilitate booking your trip and/or making it a better experience for you.  Once you complete your documents online our automated system will take the information from your last trip with us and fill out your new trip forms for you. You then add any missing information and/or change anything that is no longer current. You will find the forms you need to complete under MY TRIPS which you will find under TRIPS in the main menu across the top of the site. Since each trip requires a unique set of docs, please choose the correct trip from your "My Trips" drop down and then complete the forms required for that trip. Some trips will also ask you to complete the resort or liveaboard's forms as well.

The AIR AUTHORIZATION FORM is only required when you are having SingleDivers.com book air for you but this includes air that is part of the trip pkg price.

Not all of our forms are online as they are either infrequently used or being phased out. If you need a form that is not in our online directory, simply click on SUPPORT on the main menu and then click on SUBMIT HELP TICKET and choose TRIP ADMINISTRATION and ask for the form you need.

    TERMS & CONDITIONS

    All SingleDivers.com trips require:

    • You complete the necessary documentation as referenced above for each trip you sign up to take with us. A $75 document fee will be applied if you fail to submit your online and uploaded documents withing 21 days of signing up for a trip or within 3 days if signing up within 45 days of departure.
    • You read the EXPERIENCE REQUIRED & TRAINING/WORKSHOPS information in the online trip details to ensure that you are able to safely and comfortably meet the requirements of the trip. Please contact to further discuss any questions you have about attending one of our trips. We often accept students who would not otherwise meet the stated trip requirements because they are taking a class that will then enable them to meet the trip specifications and they will be diving with an instructor or dive master during the dives.
    • We require Dive Insurance for all dives and trips as stated above and we STRONGLY recommend trip insurance for all dives and trips but in some cases require it due to vendor specific mandates. Please see the online trip details under INSURANCE to see if the trip has optional or mandatory trip insurance requirements.
    • In the event of cancellation, your trip insurance will be your first line of defense. Secondary remedies include some rights afforded to you based upon when you have to cancel your trip in writing. Please see THIS link for full additional trip cancellation details.
    • Please read THIS link for our Guaranteed Double Occupancy Policy, Rooming Policies, Payment Terms, the "Ex" Rule etc.

  • Questions & ongoing updates

We understand that 'more is usually better' when it comes to information about your upcoming dive vacation. However we can never anticipate every question you may have so we have no problems answering anything we did not include or anything you do not fully understand. In fact we were founded using "Forums" which easily facilitates Q&A and basically talking to each other in an ongoing electronic format. Today we utilize several 'communications mechanism's which still include our forums called the "Surface Interval" but also our Help Ticket System, Knowledge Base and FAQ.

    HOW TO ASK A QUESTION

You can ask questions about our trips in two easy ways.

    1. Use our Surface Interval FORUMS to ask questions in the specific trip topic/thread. You can always find this by clicking on the turquoise button that says FORUM THREAD found at the top and bottom of each trip's details.
    2. You can use our Help Ticket System to ask a question by clicking on the SUPPORT tab in the main menu and then clicking on SUBMIT HELP TICKET and then clicking on TRIP ADMINISTRATION.  We will reply to your question as soon as we can and post the replies in the TRIP THREAD in our Forums. We will also move appropriate questions to our FAQ's and Knowledge Bases.

    ONGOING UPDATES

We use several tools to keep EVERYONE on a trip updated. They are ALL vitally important for you to monitor and stay apprised of. They are as follows:

    1. The "Welcome to the Trip" PM (private message via our FORUMS) which is sent to as soon as you sign up for the trip. You can not receive these unless you are a Premier member or above. As soon as you either pay or show interest in the trip thread/topic we'll send you this PM. It has helpful info about signing up for the trip and will be used THROUGHOUT the pre-trip process to keep you updated on critical things regarding your trip with us.
