SABA & ST KITTS, DEC 30 - JAN 6, 2018

Sababoat

Saba, known for its submerged offshore pinnacles, is the 5 square mile top of a dormant volcano towering 3,000 feet above the surface and surrounded by volcanic sand. The abrupt topography above the sea is mirrored below, and the profusion of marine life attests to the early institution of the Saba Marine Park in 1987. St. Kitts offers arguably the widest variety of sites including finger reefs, recent wrecks, and a variety of dropoffs that will capture your imagination.

  • Travel Details

    FLIGHT INFO

You will fly into St Kitts (SKB) and out of St Maarten (SXM). If your flight is delayed or you miss any of your flights and are not able to make it on schedule, please call the vessel. Notify the crew of your updated arrival time should you have that information, and where you may be reached in the meantime. The vessel will not leave port until after the last arrival on Saturday. If you are delayed and do not arrive until Sunday, all is not lost! Simply contact the vessel (1.800.322.3577 (US/Canada) or +1.721.554.5186 (boats’ cell)) and coordinate your pickup with the captain.

The vessel arrives at its final destination port on Friday afternoon at approximately 1:00pm.  Passengers spend Friday night and have Saturday breakfast on board. There will be sufficient time to catch a flight out of St. Maarten (SXM) at any time on Saturday. If you have a flight on Saturday afternoon, you are welcome to leave your luggage on board the boat until it is time to go to the airport. There is a departure tax, payable in cash, upon leaving on a flight from St. Maarten.

    BAGGAGE

Check your carrier's baggage allowances. You are encouraged to use soft-sided luggage that will store under your bed to lessen the space that is taken in your room. Packing for a liveaboard trip is much easier than packing for a land-based vacation. The climate doesn’t require much more than shorts, T-shirts, and swimsuits (you may consider slacks, dress shorts or sundresses for dinner ashore, though all restaurants are “casual”). Soft luggage is recommended as it takes up very little space when empty. Sun screens, sunglasses, a visor or hat is recommended. In case of rough weather or if you have a tendency towards seasickness, come prepared with motion sickness medications or Transderm patches from your doctor. If you have favorite CD’s, IPod playlist or DVD’s, feel free to bring them. All linens (including sheets, comforters, bath towels, hand towels, dive towels, and wash cloths) are provided on board. If possible, pack your regulator, dive computer, mask, a swimsuit, change of clothes, necessary medications and toiletries in your carry-on bag. Having these few items with you will make an unexpected luggage delay far more bearable.

    TRANSFERS

Transfers are not included in the package.  You will be met at the airport by a driver; the price is currently US$20-$30 per person each way, depending on the size of your group.  If by chance you miss the driver, simply catch a taxi to Port Zante (St. Kitts) - the vessel will be waiting there.

    VISA/PASSPORT INFORMATION

Please note that a passport is required of all visitors arriving in St. Maarten or St. Kitts. Please verify passport expiration date requirements for each island if your passport will expire within 6 months of your boarding date. A paper copy of your valid return or onward airline ticket is also required.

  • Diving & Itinerary

    DIVING

Days aboard the vessel generally involve breakfast from 7 to 8 am (cold breakfasts are available for late risers), followed by two morning dives, lunch at 12:30 pm, two afternoon dives, dinner at 6:30 pm, and a night dive. Island tours will be arranged at each island visited for those interested; further island access is available daily upon request.

The weather in the Northeastern Caribbean is remarkably consistent year-round. The temperatures range from the 70's F or higher in the winter months to the low 90's F during the summer, with nearly constant sea breezes. Water temperatures range from a low of about 76 degrees F in winter to a high of about 85 degrees F in summer. There is normally little appreciable current at the sites we visit, and visibility is generally between 50 and 150 feet. Most divers are comfortable with a 3mm wetsuit in summer, and up to a 5 mm wetsuit in winter. Your dives will be done from the vessel itself, taking advantage of the easy-access dive platform and other on board amenities. Entries are usually made from the side exit gates into the water, a drop of 4 feet or so.

    DIVER REQUIREMENTS

To ensure your safety, we require the following of all divers:

    1. All divers must be certified as open water scuba divers by an internationally recognized certification organization.
    2. All divers should have logged at least one dive within the 12 months prior to boarding the vessel, or are encouraged to participate in a refresher course on board.
    3. All divers must adhere to the buddy system, unless certified, equipped and adhering to standards for solo diving.
    4. All divers must log in and out of the water with a member of the diving staff.
    5. All divers must have a submersible console including SPG & depth gauge, timepiece or dive computer with these functions.
    6. On night dives, a cyalume lightstick or marker beacon must be worn by each diver.
    7. Decompression diving is not allowed under any conditions. The maximum allowed depth is 130’ (110’ on nitrox).
    8. Diving activities must cease when the consumption of alcohol begins.
    9. Please note that, due to a combination of staff and equipment logistics, insurance requirements and local diving regulations, rebreathers, diver propulsion vehicles (DPVs) and multi-cylinder configurations (except for a small pony bottle) may NOT be used aboard Explorer Ventures Fleet vessels.

SPECIFIC LIMITATIONS PERTAINING TO SABA & ST KITTS

St Kitts is really easy diving and this itinerary is particularly nice because we start in St Kitts so you can build to the fabulous pinnacles of Saba. The pinnacles of Saba are typically  deep starting at 80-90ft and plunging thousands of feet into the ocean.

We will do a fairly long surface swim to the tops of the pinnacles and then drop down to 80-95 ft to enjoy them and then swim back. A guide will lead us and these will be the latter part of the week so that will enable you to get your diving mojo so to speak in St Kitss the first part of the week

If you have any questions or concerns as to diving in either Saba or St Kitts please contact Kamala Shadduck aka WreckWench at kamala@singledivers.com or call at 8645576079 and she will help you.

    TRAINING/WORKSHOPS

There are no SingleDivers.com training activities nor workshops currently planned for this trip.  We are happy to check with the resort about doing training during your trip and what they would charge. Often they will give us a better price so feel free to ask us to assist.  If you would like us to help arrange additional training for you, simple click in the SUPPORT tab in the main menu and then click on SUBMIT HELP TICKET and click on TRIP ADMINISTRATION and request assistance.

We will also check to see if any of our trip participants are instructors who would like to teach on the trip and let you know.  We are glad you are interested in continuing your dive education and we hope we can help you continue your goal of ongoing training.

  • Insurance, Documentation, and T&C's

    INSURANCE

DIVE Insurance is required! DIVE insurance is VERY inexpensive. Even if you have insurance that you think covers DIVING ACCIDENTS and air lifts…it is CHEAP (approx $100) to get a supplemental policy to ensure you are covered for an entire year of diving.

    We recommend:

Dive Assure: for either a 'one time' policy OR an annual policy for BOTH Dive & Trip Insurance providing PRIMARY COVERAGE with excellent rates and coverage! Please reference SingleDivers.com via the drop-down menu under GLOBAL PARTNERS. (If you can not find the drop down, do not reference anyone and email info@singledivers.com your policy info and we will do it for you via our Dive Assure company representative.)

Diver's Alert Network: Please use our reference number when ordering: ID1603080   (This only works if you are a new first time DAN member.)

Trip Insurance is STRONGLY SUGGESTED and/or required (depending on the trip)!  TRIP insurance is VERY inexpensive. Even if you have insurance that you think covers your trip…it is CHEAP (approx $100-$200) to get a supplemental policy to ensure you are covered for your investment in your dive trip. If you opt to not get trip insurance you are responsible for all losses related to your trip including not going for any reason.

    We recommend:

Dive Assure: for either a 'one time' policy OR an annual policy for BOTH Dive & Trip Insurance with excellent rates and coverage!

    DOCUMENTATION

All SingleDivers.com trips require necessary documentation to facilitate booking your trip and/or making it a better experience for you.  Once you complete your documents online our automated system will take the information from your last trip with us and fill out your new trip forms for you. You then add any missing information and/or change anything that is no longer current. You will find the forms you need to complete under MY TRIPS which you will find under TRIPS in the main menu across the top of the site. Since each trip requires a unique set of docs, please choose the correct trip from your "My Trips" drop down and then complete the forms required for that trip. Some trips will also ask you to complete the resort or liveaboard's forms as well.

The AIR AUTHORIZATION FORM is only required when you are having SingleDivers.com book air for you but this includes air that is part of the trip pkg price.

Not all of our forms are online as they are either infrequently used or being phased out. If you need a form that is not in our online directory, simply click on SUPPORT on the main menu and then click on SUBMIT HELP TICKET and choose TRIP ADMINISTRATION and ask for the form you need.

    TERMS & CONDITIONS

    All SingleDivers.com trips require:

    • You complete the necessary documentation as referenced above for each trip you sign up to take with us. A $75 document fee will be applied if you fail to submit your online and uploaded documents withing 21 days of signing up for a trip or within 3 days if signing up within 45 days of departure.
    • You read the EXPERIENCE REQUIRED & TRAINING/WORKSHOPS information in the online trip details to ensure that you are able to safely and comfortably meet the requirements of the trip. Please contact to further discuss any questions you have about attending one of our trips. We often accept students who would not otherwise meet the stated trip requirements because they are taking a class that will then enable them to meet the trip specifications and they will be diving with an instructor or dive master during the dives.
    • We require Dive Insurance for all dives and trips as stated above and we STRONGLY recommend trip insurance for all dives and trips but in some cases require it due to vendor specific mandates. Please see the online trip details under INSURANCE to see if the trip has optional or mandatory trip insurance requirements.
    • In the event of cancellation, your trip insurance will be your first line of defense. Secondary remedies include some rights afforded to you based upon when you have to cancel your trip in writing. Please see THIS link for full additional trip cancellation details.
    • Please read THIS link for our Guaranteed Double Occupancy Policy, Rooming Policies, Payment Terms, the "Ex" Rule etc.

  • Questions & ongoing updates

We understand that 'more is usually better' when it comes to information about your upcoming dive vacation. However we can never anticipate every question you may have so we have no problems answering anything we did not include or anything you do not fully understand. In fact we were founded using "Forums" which easily facilitates Q&A and basically talking to each other in an ongoing electronic format. Today we utilize several 'communications mechanism's which still include our forums called the "Surface Interval" but also our Help Ticket System, Knowledge Base and FAQ.

    HOW TO ASK A QUESTION

You can ask questions about our trips in two easy ways.

    1. Use our Surface Interval FORUMS to ask questions in the specific trip topic/thread. You can always find this by clicking on the turquoise button that says FORUM THREAD found at the top and bottom of each trip's details.
    2. You can use our Help Ticket System to ask a question by clicking on the SUPPORT tab in the main menu and then clicking on SUBMIT HELP TICKET and then clicking on TRIP ADMINISTRATION.  We will reply to your question as soon as we can and post the replies in the TRIP THREAD in our Forums. We will also move appropriate questions to our FAQ's and Knowledge Bases.

    ONGOING UPDATES

We use several tools to keep EVERYONE on a trip updated. They are ALL vitally important for you to monitor and stay apprised of. They are as follows:

    1. The "Welcome to the Trip" PM (private message via our FORUMS) which is sent to as soon as you sign up for the trip. You can not receive these unless you are a Premier member or above. As soon as you either pay or show interest in the trip thread/topic we'll send you this PM. It has helpful info about signing up for the trip and will be used THROUGHOUT the pre-trip process to keep you updated on critical things regarding your trip with us.
    2. The Trip Topic in our FORUMS (the first post has the trip details in it) and subsequent posts will contain ongoing questions and updates. We also start separate topics for important trip related matters. Please click on the FORUM THREAD  button to be taken to the Trip Discussion Thread/Topic for this particular trip. PLEASE monitor these for IMPORTANT UPDATES that affect your trip.
    3. The FAQ, KNOWLEDGE BASE & HELP TICKET SYSTEM. When in the main site you'll always be able to click on the SUPPORT tab on the main menu and find the Help Ticket System, Knowledge Base, Glossary and FAQ. Every time someone ask a question we we will file it in the appropriate TRIP KNOWLEDGE BASE and/or FAQ as well as posting it on in the FORUMS Trip Thread. This will allow you to find the information you need in one of several places making it easier for you to get the information you need and ask the questions you want.
