Hello Tammy,

I will take this opportunity to invite you to dinner at my house this evening, so I can enjoy your wonderful personality and intellect. Not having asked a woman out in about 15 years myself, I am feeling rather vulnerable here in doing this, and hope to not be rejected. Of course, if you do reject my offer, I can only assume that it is because I am not good enough looking. Ed

I'm happy to accept, Ed! It may be difficult tonight however, since you're in SC and I'm in MO and you didn't give me much time to get there..... (or was this your safety net?) :lmao:

Maybe we can have dinner on an SD trip sometime soon.....then I can't scare you off with my indifferent cooking, and we'll both have salt water hairdo's. :teeth:

Sure. Typical high maintenance woman. Use the excuse of 1000-1500 miles, and only an hour or so to get here as an excuse. I tried. Ed

Now thats funny, I don't care who you are.

ah..... she could ask him out.

That will happen immediattly after:

- Yoko Ono and Björk form a duo and have a Number One hit

- Nuclear weapons are abolished world-wide

- Sea life thrives in unpolluted oceans

- Europa becomes an all-inclusive ice diving resort

- Dark Matter is discovered to be peanut butter

It just dawned on me why "men will never ask for directions"......

we are afraid that the answer will not be "turn left at the light" but more like "sorry, I have other plans" or "not in a million years".

I had to steal this....Thanks Tammy!!

This is for all the wonderful, beautiful, independent women that keep getting passed over.

I may not be the most beautiful, or the sexiest, nor do I have the 'perfect' body. I might not be everyone's first choice, but I am a GREAT choice. I don't pretend to be someone I'm not, because I'm great at being ME. I might not be proud of some things I've done in the past....but I'm proud of who I am today. Take me as I am, or watch me as I walk away!

Remember... dive trips cost more when you have to pay for two!! Stay single, it's just easier that way.

Um, only if you're paying for both to go. If you were dating an independent woman who paid her own way... :teeth:

Ah the world according to beach junkie.... PRICELESS! :teeth:

Some random musings...

Independent women ARE more comfortable...and that is good. However sometimes they get too comfortable and give the impression they don't care anymore. They gain some weight, they get sloppy about clothes, they don't work to look as nice as they used to. Afterall they are comfortable with themselves...why shouldn't a guy be that way?

And its not so much the makeup or clothes...but the EFFORT that you put forth. People recognize effort and effort is sexy...its attractive!

And effort applies to 'nice guys' too. You know many nice guys are too independent as well. They are sooooooo comfortable they are perceived as slobs. And just as men are attracted to women who make effort to look nice...women are attracted to men who make effort to look nice, or to be clean, or keep a clean pad, etc.

After all... no matter how great you are...if you do something horribly 'unlady like' or 'single bachelor guy like' then more than likely you will turn the other person off. And we all know if you can be 'this casual/gross/sloppy/untidy/etc' NOW when you first meet someone...think how bad it will be when the relationship progresses. :(

More later...I've got work to do! ;)

Ok one last thought...

If women are independent AND wish to be interdependent with someone special then they also have to be dependent at times with this 'special person'.

So since we have to acknowledge all three conditions must exist for a relationship to work...why would a woman NOT ask a guy out and make herself vunerable?

It doesn't mean she has to ask all the time...nor does she have to take the lead all the time...but asking out a guy is quite liberating...even if he does say no. Truthfully who cares? It was just a question...its not the end of the world.

I recall seeing a very attractive man in a bar on a date with another guy. What made him attractive was how his eyes and face lit up when he smiled. And he loved to smile! Since it was not cool to leave my companion, I stopped briefly enough to inquire if he was a diver since he had an atocha/treasure coin around his neck and he said yes. I said it was lovely and continued on my way to the restroom. On the way back I slipped my card in his hand and told him to call me about diving. That was all I said and I went back to my date.

It was quite exciting as I'd never done anything like that. I didn't ask for a date...I simply asked him to call to talk about diving but as it turned out...we did start dating...after he called and asked ME for a date! ;)

And I am still friends with him today. And he still says no woman had ever done that before...nor since then. He also indicated he had noticed me but since I was with someone all he could do was smile at me. Go figure...

So I think independent women SHOULD reach out a bit and use EFFORT to show they are attracted/atractive in other ways if they don't feel it necessary to rely on appearance only.

Good words Kamala!!

First impressions can only be made once.

All of this reminds me of the first time I colored my hair. My hairdresser told me "It doesn't make you look High Maintenance....but it does make you look like you take care of yourself".

By definition, most women in general are high maintenance, and good, bad, or indifferent most men are visual and looking for arm candy. So how do those of us/you find each other? I have no clue, but let me know when you figure it out! Personally, I am not interested in how much money a woman has, if she is model perfect, or what kind of car she drives. It does seem to me however, that the first thing I am asked within a few minutes of meeting a woman is "what do you do for a living" which just another way of asking how much money I make. At that point the conversation often ends.

This could simply be a conversation starter.... to get a guy to talk about himself so we can see how he comports himself during a conversation and get some clues about him. I don't personally know how much every job description earns, do you? We are not defined by our earnings, but we ARE somewhat defined by our choice in jobs. Case in point: I'm an accountant. To do that job, you really have to be detail-oriented and somewhat anal about accuracy. That describes the professional side of me pretty well! Further into the conversation, you will discover that I have an unusual and interesting job history and that I'm very adventurous in my personal life.....
